Netflix's long-hyped, announced, and partially ad-supported offering launches November 3 at 5 p.m. The new “Basic subscription with advertising” tariff can then also be selected in Germany, which will cost EUR 4.99 per month.
4 to 5 minutes of advertising per hour
The new basic subscription with advertising supplements the existing tariffs and does not replace them. The existing and ad-free basic, standard and premium subscriptions will remain in place. The basic subscription with advertising offers similar functions to the previous basic subscription, but not only differs from it in terms of advertising. The plan with advertising is said to contain 4 to 5 minutes of advertising per hour, offers no download function and a “limited number of films and series” will not be available, which Netflix justifies with licenses that do not allow this. However, they are working to change this.
Initially, the commercials will be 15 or 30 seconds long and will run before and during the series and films.
HD instead of SD video resolution
A positive aspect of both the new subscription with advertising and the basic tariff without advertising is an increase in video quality from SD to 720p HD. So far, only the SD resolution was included in the basic tariff for 7.99 euros per month. The standard plan continues to offer 1080p, but users only get UHD/4K and HDR with the premium plan.
The new basis -Tarif with advertising, like the ad-free basic tariff, enables playback on one device at the same time (standard 2 devices, premium 4 devices).
Introduction in 12 countries, no changes for existing customers
The new tariff will start in 12 countries, in addition to Germany these are Australia, Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, Canada, Korea, Mexico, Spain, UK and USA. The new offer does not automatically result in any changes for subscriptions and memberships that are already running. The prices also remain unchanged. The basic subscription costs EUR 7.99 per month, the standard subscription EUR 12.99 per month and the premium subscription EUR 17.99 per month.
