SCB prefers to use the KPIF measure, where the effects of increased interest rates have been subtracted.

The inflation rate according to CPIF, i.e. the change from the same month last year, was 9.7 percent in September 2022. This is an increase from August when the inflation rate was 9.0 percent. The monthly change from August to September was 1.1 percent.

– The inflation rate according to the CPI was higher than that according to the CPIF due to the increased mortgage interest rates. That effect is cleared from KPIF. Otherwise, the two measures are similar, says Caroline Neander, price statistician at Statistics Sweden.

Rising interest costs contributed 1.2 percentage points to the inflation rate according to the CPI, which amounted to 10.8 percent.

There has been a continued broad rise in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Electricity prices were roughly 54 percent higher in September this year than a year ago. However, fuel prices fell in September.

Higher than expected in the USA
New CPI figures came on Thursday also from the USA. There, consumer prices rose to 8.2 on an annual basis in September despite the central bank's interest rate increases. The figure is higher than the market thought, reports CNBC.
