macOS Ventura, also known as macOS 13, brings some major improvements and new features. The System Settings app has been completely revamped, Stage Manager is introduced, and several default apps have been improved. Thanks to macOS Ventura, you can also use some of the iOS 16 features on the Mac, such as revoke iMessage messages or set a reminder in the Mail app. But you might be wondering: When is macOS Ventura coming out? Although the macOS Ventura release date has not yet been officially announced, we can already make a good estimate.
macOS Ventura release date: when will the update be released?
Currently Apple has only informed that macOS Ventura ‘starting in October’ is available. The month has now been on its way for a few days, so when exactly will the update be released? Usually, Apple releases major macOS updates later in the month. Looking at previous years, these are the release dates of the major macOS updates:
- macOS Monterey: October 25, 2021
- macOS Big Sur: November 12, 2020
- macOS Catalina: October 7, 2019
- macOS Mojave: September 24, 2018
- macOS High Sierra: September 25, 2017
- macOS Sierra: September 20, 2016
With the exception of macOS Sierra, all updates appeared on Monday evening. The date is also often announced at least a week in advance, leaving three dates: Monday 17 October, Monday 24 October or Monday 31 October. That makes October 24 or October 31, 2022 the most likely release date for macOS Ventura.
If we look at the current beta period, this also corresponds to previous years. Currently, Apple is on the tenth beta of macOS Ventura and last year, with macOS Monterey, Apple also released a total of ten betas. This is the number of betas Apple released each year for major macOS updates:
- macOS Ventura: 10 betas (as of October 4, 2022)
- macOS Monterey : 10 betas, 2 Release Candidates
- macOS Big Sur: 11 betas, 2 Release Candidates
- macOS Catalina: 10 betas, 1 Release Candidate
- macOS Mojave: 11 betas, 1 Release Candidate
- macOS High Sierra: 9 betas, 1 Release Candidate
When will the macOS Ventura release date be announced?
Apple is likely to make a number of new product announcements later this month. We expect a new Mac mini, M2 Pro MacBook Pros and new iPads from Apple in October. These announcements follow in a press release or at an event. We expect these announcements sometime in the second half of the month, so we think Apple will announce the date of macOS Ventura then. The release date announcement is likely to follow at the earliest in the week of October 17.
This is the expected schedule:
- Release date announcement: week of October 17 or week of October 24
- macOS Ventura release date: October 24 or October 31
