XMG Apex 15 Max: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D makes its debut in a notebook

With the XMG Apex 15 Max (E22 generation), Schenker is bringing the particularly efficient gaming specialist Ryzen 7 5800X3D (test) with 3D V-Cache into a notebook for the first time ever and combining the Zen -3 desktop CPU optionally with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or GeForce RTX 3070 laptop GPU of the Ampere generation.

Ryzen 5 5600X and GeForce RTX 3060 as base

The new XMG Apex 15 Max (E22) already uses a desktop processor in the basic configuration and uses an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (test) with 6 Zen 3 cores, which comes with 2 × 8 GB DDR4-3200 from Samsung and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU with 6 GB GDDR6 and a TGP of 115 watts.

Basically, the new XMG Apex 15 Max costs 1,380 euros and also offers a 500 GB Samsung 980, which is connected via PCIe 3.0 x4. The 15.6-inch IPS display has a Full HD/1080p resolution and offers 240 Hz.

R7 5800X3D and GeForce RTX 3070 as an upgrade

More exciting than the entire desktop portfolio of the AMD Vermeer generation, which includes the Ryzen 7 5700X (test), Ryzen 9 5900X and the Ryzen 9 5950X is available, but the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which is being used in a notebook for the first time.

In the editorial test, the gaming specialist consumed an average of 58 watts, literally outclassing both the in-house competition and Intel Alder Lake.

The mass storage of the XMG Apex 15 Max (E22) can be between 1 × 500 GB in the base and up to to 3 × 4 TB can be selected via upgrade and also supports PCIe 4.0 x4 on request and for a corresponding surcharge.

WIFI 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB-C 3.2 Gen 2

In terms of connectivity, it offers Gaming notebook in addition to WIFI 6 – formerly IEEE 802.11ax – and Bluetooth 5.2, a total of four USB ports including USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with 10 Gb/s, an HDCP-capable HDMI 2.1 output and a mini DisplayPort 1.4a.
