Foreign. Giorgia Meloni, described in the Swedish media as “post-fascist” and “right-wing extremist”, wins big in Sunday's Italian election, according to a first polling station survey.

Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy party receives 22-26 percent of the vote according to Rai's polling station survey and her right-wing coalition looks to gain a large advantage over the left.

It therefore looks as if the Italians has voted in the most right-wing government since Mussolini.

If she is allowed to form a government, Giorgia Meloni will be the country's first female prime minister.

Meloni's success has terrified liberals within the EU. Days before the election, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen threatened to give Italy the same treatment as Hungary if the Italians voted for a right-wing government.
