With the Bowers & Wilkins Px8, the manufacturer is launching the new flagship of its wireless ANC headphones today. The new model inherits a lot from the Px7 S2, but also implements innovations. Bowers & Wilkins wants to set new standards in terms of sound, construction and processing.

New audio drivers should improve sound

The Px8 relies on the technology of the Px7 S2 for the acoustic platform, but new 40 mm drivers with carbon fiber membranes are intended to further improve the level of detail, resolution and spatiality. They should be characterized by a fast response and a particularly low distortion in the entire frequency range. The drivers of the Px8 are positioned at an angle in the ear cups in order to have the same distance to the user's ear at every point.

Design with aluminum and Leather

The new headphones are available with black or tan and gray leather. The temple construction relies on aluminum with a shiny “diamond-cut” edge. Both the ear cups and the ear pads made of memory foam as well as the headband are covered with nappa leather. For operation, the headphones rely on buttons and a slider for switching on and off as well as coupling on the ear cups. The Px8 weighs 320 grams.

aptX Adaptive for Hi-Res Audio

The Px8 supports aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC as audio codecs. Bluetooth 5.2 is used for wireless transmission. The Px8 supports 24-bit Hi-Res audio. Audio signals can also be transmitted via USB-C and analog 3.5mm cable connections using a USB-C to 3.5 jack cable. Both cables with a length of 1.2 meters are included in the supplied case. The Px8 is also charged via USB-C.

ANC, transparency mode and carrying sensor

For active noise cancellation (ANC), the Px8 uses four microphones, two of which are directed inwards and two directed outwards. Two more are used for telephony. As with the Px7 S2, the distance between the two external microphones on the Px8 has also been reduced to optimize system performance. Also, the tilt of each microphone has been adjusted to improve voice pickup, and the position of the second microphone has been changed to reduce wind noise. In addition to ANC, there is also a transparency mode and the headphones offer a wearing sensor.

30 hours of battery life with ANC

According to the manufacturer, the battery life of the Px8 is 30 hours when music is transferred via Bluetooth and ANC is used. After 15 minutes of charging, energy should be available for another 7 hours.
