The new BMW XM & egrave; finally arrived. It is a high-performance Plug-in SUV whose contents were anticipated by a concept car that the German brand had unveiled last year. The BMW XM is to be seen as the top model among those presented to celebrate 50 years of the M division. Made from a blank sheet of paper (the XM does not derive from any model already on sale), this Plug-in SUV is; also the first original BMW M after the BMW M1.
Production will begin. at the BMW Group plant in Spartanburg, USA, in December 2022, before arriving in dealerships around the world in the spring of 2023.
DESIGN AND INTERIORS
The design of the BMW XM is not; certainly a surprise since it was anticipated by the concept car. The look & egrave; particularly imposing and aggressive with rather extreme lines. The front is characterized by the presence of headlights divided into two units & agrave; separated, of a double kidney with golden contours and continuous illumination of the contour and large air intakes. Behind, however, stand out the hexagonal exhausts arranged vertically.
The BMW XM can & ograve; also count on 21-inch M alloy wheels. Optionally & egrave; possible to have 22 and 23 inch wheels. The SUV measures 5,100 mm long x 2,005 mm wide x 1,755 mm high, with a pitch of 3,105 mm. The capacity of the trunk reaches 527 liters but it can & ograve; be expanded up to 1,820 liters by folding the rear seats. As for the interior, BMW has divided it into two zones. In front, the cockpit is designed to be tailored to the driver. Behind, however, the interiors have been designed to offer luxury and comfort.
Up front, we find M multifunction seats, knee protectors and a unique M leather steering wheel, as well as M-specific graphics and the BMW Head-Up Display. Speaking of technology, we have a large curved panel inside which there are the 12.3-inch instrumentation display and the 14.9-inch infotainment display with iDrive 8 platform.
Behind, instead, the BMW XM offers an exclusive M Lounge .
Heated backrests that extend to the sides of the rear compartment and specially designed cushions offer passengers high levels of comfort. The sculptural headliner & egrave; unique, with its three-dimensional prism structure, photographic-style border and 100 units & agrave; LED for lighting. & Egrave; Choose from four different upholsteries to customize the interior, plus a new Vintage leather for the upper sections of the dashboard and door panels. Ambient lighting, four-zone automatic climate control, Harman Kardon surround sound system and Travel & amp; Comfort System are all standard items, while the list of options includes the Bowers & amp; surround sound system. Wilkins Diamond with 1,500 watt amplifier and four additional speakers in the roof area.
ENGINE AND SAFETY
The & quot; beating heart & quot; of the new BMW XM & egrave; a powertrain consisting of a 4.4-liter V8 M TwinPower Turbo engine combined with an electric motor. The unit endothermic delivers 360 kW/489 hp with 650 Nm of torque, while the electric 145 kW/197 hp with 280 Nm of torque. Overall, the SUV can & ograve; count on 480 kW/653 hp with 800 Nm of torque .
The powertrain & egrave; combined with M Steptronic eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive M xDrive which has the new mode; 4WD Sand for driving on sandy surfaces. Speaking of performance, it takes 4.2 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h. The speed maximum & egrave; of 250 km/h , electronically limited. With the optional M Driver's Package, the speed peak rises to 270 km/h.
The unit & agrave; electric & egrave; powered by a 29.5 kWh battery (25.7 kWh usable) that can & ograve; be recharged in alternating current up to a maximum power of 7.4 kW. In mode only electric & egrave; It is possible to travel 82-84 km and reach a speed; maximum speed of 140 km/h.
The driver can & ograve; choose between the modalities HYBRID, ELECTRIC and eCONTROL driving. & Egrave; Also present is the Setup button which allows direct access to the configuration settings of the traction system, chassis, steering, braking system, M xDrive and the level of energy recovery during braking. BMW has also worked hard on the set-up to offer a driving behavior of the highest level.
We find a double-arm front axle and a five-link rear axle with properties; specially designed kinematics and elasto-kinematics. The BMW XM & egrave; equipped as standard with adaptive M Professional suspension including electronically controlled shock absorbers and active roll stabilization with 48V electric motors and Active Roll Control. The XM & egrave; also the first BMW M model to have Integral Active Steering as standard.
Speaking of safety , the standard equipment includes the Driving Assistant , with Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Return with Steering Assist, Avoidance Assistant, Steering Assistant 39; warning and information system on speed limits. The optional Driving Assistant Professional combines Active Cruise Control with Stop & amp; Go function with a host of other functions, including steering and lane control assistant, traffic light recognition, 39; automatic assistance at speed limits; and active navigation. The Parking Assistant Plus is also; included in the standard equipment.
