Arctic appears to be discontinuing their MX-5 series thermal compounds completely after consistency issues. At least the product is now marked with “End of Life” at Arctic. But a successor is already in the starting blocks: The new MX-6* can already be found at Amazon.
@momomo_us provided the information on the discontinuation of the MX-5 on Twitter a screenshot from the Arctic website. A visit to this confirms that Arctic has marked the MX-5 with “End of Life”. Accordingly, the product will be discontinued and will no longer be offered in the future. The MX-5 can no longer be ordered from the Arctic Shop or from Amazon. There are only a few offers in the price comparison, but these are also likely to disappear soon.

The assumption is that Arctic is now pulling the ripcord after problems with the consistency of the thermal paste. At the beginning of the year, the manufacturer had to admit quality defects in individual batches. Affected pastes should show abnormalities in terms of consistency and durability, which are noticeable in a larger deposit of the oil contained and a resulting premature hardening. This could interfere with the application of thermal paste. Arctic offered affected customers a replacement in return for proof of purchase.
Since Arctic did not provide numbers to identify the affected batches when asked, it was assumed that all batches were affected. However, this remained unconfirmed.
The MX-6 is in the starting blocks
While the MX-5 is now disappearing from the market , there are already indications of the successor: Amazon already has the MX-6*, which Arctic has not yet presented at all. Details on the new thermal paste are still missing.
The editors have asked Arctic for a statement on the discontinuation of the MX-5 and asked about the successor. The message will be updated as soon as there is a reply.
