Where iPhone users used to often update every other year, nowadays we do more and more with the iPhone. It is much more common to update after three years, partly due to the higher price of the iPhones and because they are supported longer and therefore remain more usable. But despite that, there will come a time to update and if you have an iPhone 11 Pro right now, you may have already considered the upgrade. In this article we list the differences between the popular iPhone 11 Pro vs the new iPhone 14 Pro.

#1 Screen iPhone 11 Pro vs iPhone 14 Pro: arguably the biggest update

In terms of display, there is a big difference between the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro. First of all, you advance in size. The iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8-inch display, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 6.1-inch display. You also take a step with the Max models: from 6.5-inch to 6.7-inch. In both cases, the extra screen space provides all kinds of advantages. Everything looks a little better as a result and operation is also easier, unless you like to operate the iPhone with one hand. Then the 6.1-inch display may feel a bit too big.

In addition to the format, there are also all kinds of screen improvements behind the scenes. The iPhone 14 Pro has a ProMotion display with 120Hz refresh, which makes animations smoother, smoother scrolling, and more. You notice the difference especially when you put the two devices next to each other and once you're used to the ProMotion screen, you don't want to go back. In addition, the resolution is a bit higher and the newer screen is a lot brighter.

But perhaps more important is the notch at the top. On the iPhone 11 Pro this is still a wide black notch, but on the iPhone 14 Pro you will find the new Dynamic Island. This looks nicer, but also has all kinds of practical advantages. System Notifications and Live Activities are part of this Dynamic Island. In the Dynamic Island you can see a running timer, the currently playing music track and much more. The iPhone 14 Pro also has an always-on screen, which has all kinds of advantages on the lock screen. All in all, you make a lot of progress in terms of display and we think that is already a reason to choose the newer model.

In this article you can read all the specifications and functions of the screen in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. Especially the Pro model has something beautiful to offer!

#2 Design: from rounded to flat

If you switch from an iPhone 11 Pro to an iPhone 14 Pro, you will also notice this in the design. Since the iPhone 12 series, Apple has been using a flat-sided design. Many iPhone users love this look, although opinions differ as to which design is more comfortable. That is a matter of trying and if you do put a case around it, you will notice it much less. In any case, it ensures that your iPhone actually looks newer and the difference is therefore a lot bigger than, for example, between the iPhone 12 Pro vs the iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone 11 Pro came in space gray, silver, gold, and midnight green. Silver and gold are also available with the iPhone 14 Pro, although gold has become slightly more yellow. Space gray has since been replaced by the darker space black and as an extra color you can choose from deep purple. That might not be your first choice, but you can't go wrong with space black.

#3 Camera: better specs for almost all lenses

Both models have three lenses on the back: a wide-angle lens, ultra-wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. But the specifications with the iPhone 14 Pro are a lot better. The wide-angle lens has 48 megapixels, allowing you to take much larger photos and crop without losing quality. Also, the newer lenses take better photos in low light. The iPhone 14 Pro models also support 6x optical zoom (instead of 4x with the iPhone 11 Pro) and all kinds of extra photography functions have been added. The most important we find the macro mode, but you also have the new action mode for video, the film mode with depth effect, portraits in night mode and photographic styles. You can also capture raw quality photos with Apple ProRAW on the iPhone 14 Pro, if you want to adjust even more things in post-processing. Also not unimportant: the iPhone 14 Pro has a LiDAR scanner for better portrait photos and better augmented reality functions. If you're not a keen photographer, you can even benefit from it in other ways.

If you like filming, you will find that you make much nicer videos with the iPhone 14 Pro. There is support for filming with Dolby Vision in a 4K HDR resolution and the digital zoom has also been improved. All in all, you make much nicer videos with the iPhone 14 Pro, even though the iPhone 11 Pro didn't do too bad either.

In addition to the rear, you'll also find improvements to the front camera. It now has autofocus and the aperture is better, which also improves the quality of your selfies. You can also use the night mode with the front camera, while with the iPhone 11 Pro that was only possible with the outer cameras.

All about the iPhone 14 (Pro) camera

Almost everyone thinks the camera is one of the most important parts of the iPhone. How good is the camera of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro? You can read that here.

#4 Chip, performance and storage: faster and more

Since there is three years between the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro, Apple has also made leaps in performance. The A16 Bionic is a lot faster than the A13 Bionic, although the extra options are mainly used for the extra advanced camera functions. But the A16 chip also delivers better performance compared to the A13 chip. The iPhone 14 Pro feels faster and the graphics are better too. The chip is also more energy efficient, but more on that later.

Another improvement to take into account is the extra storage capacity. The iPhone 14 Pro is right there with 128GB of storage, while the iPhone 11 Pro started at a paltry 64GB. If you really want to get the most out of the iPhone (and take a lot of photos and videos), you can also go wild with the iPhone 14 Pro with 1TB of storage. You have to dig deep into your pockets for that.

#5 Connectivity: hello 5G and more

If you switch from the iPhone 11 Pro to the iPhone 14 Pro, you will also be introduced to 5G for the first time. 5G is currently delivering slightly higher mobile speeds, although the differences are not yet as great as with the switch from 3G to 4G. We do not yet have the really faster 5G network in the Netherlands, but it can nevertheless be a handy upgrade if you use the iPhone a lot on the road and want to stream or download movies, for example. This means you don't have to wait as long when downloading.

Another improvement is the switch from Bluetooth 5.0 to Bluetooth 5.3. The newer version is slightly more stable and has a higher reliability, although we wonder whether you will really notice that in practice. After all, other connected Bluetooth accessories must also support Bluetooth 5.3 to take advantage of the improvements.

#6 Battery and charging: longer and more fun

We mentioned it earlier: the A16 chip is more energy efficient than the A13 chip. That provides significantly better battery performance. An example: with the iPhone 11 Pro you can play audio for 65 hours and with the iPhone 14 Pro that is only 75 hours. In practice, this means that with the iPhone 14 Pro you can do more with your iPhone during the day, without having to charge it at the end of the day. The chance that your iPhone is completely empty in the evening is a lot smaller.

And if you then have to charge, you can do so in a new way. MagSafe has been around since the iPhone 12 series. This is a faster wireless and magnetic charging point. With normal wireless charging it goes with a maximum of 7.5W of power, but with MagSafe this is twice as fast. It is also much easier to attach a charger, because it magnetically clicks onto the back. In addition, there are many MagSafe accessories that you can take advantage of: power banks, card cases, stands and much more.

Conclusion iPhone 11 Pro vs iPhone 14 Pro: this will improve you

Whether you need to upgrade from the iPhone 11 Pro to the iPhone 14 Pro depends entirely on your situation. If you are still happy with your current model, the battery still performs well and you can do everything you want with it, then there is not necessarily a reason to make the switch now. But if your iPhone 11 Pro is nearing the end of its life or you just want all the new features we've listed above, the iPhone 14 Pro is the device for you. You can opt for the iPhone 14 Pro if you want to use the new photography features, want a new design and a better screen. You will improve in almost everything, so you certainly won't regret choosing the iPhone 14 Pro.

Cheaper alternative: iPhone 13 Pro

If this model is outside your budget and you are ready for something new, you could also opt for the iPhone 13 Pro. This is still available at various points of sale and is a lot cheaper. The camera is slightly less good than in the iPhone 14 Pro and the screen is slightly less advanced, but even in that case it is a good upgrade compared to the iPhone 11 Pro. The big advantage is that you can save a lot of money with it. You will find the best deals in our article about buying a separate iPhone 13 Pro.
