After the announcement in August that Logitech is working together with Tencent on a handheld designed for cloud gaming, the official announcement follows with all the details and technical data. The Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld launches in October and is available for pre-order today.

Starting in October for $350

For the time being, however, pre-orders are only possible in the USA and Canada, because Logitech has obviously limited the launch to these two markets – so there was no announcement in Germany today. The handheld can be pre-ordered in these countries starting today for $349.99, with delivery starting on October 17th. This makes the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld more expensive than the Nintendo Switch, which starts at $299 in the US. To coincide with the announcement, a limited number of customers will receive Logitech's handheld for a pre-order price of $299.

Games can be used via Google, Microsoft and Nvidia

For the cloud gaming console, Logitech has worked with Tencent, Microsoft and Nvidia. The mobile game console relies on Android for the operating system and can also access content from the Google Play Store. But also, as already announced in August, for games from Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia's GeForce Now. Xbox Cloud Gaming support is arguably just a pre-installed Progressive Web App (PWA) and no real integration, so shortcuts to games can't be placed on the console's home screen. Logitech has partnered with Tencent for the game launcher. In addition to this, the classic Android interface can also be started, with apps such as YouTube and Chrome being preinstalled.

Snapdragon 720G as base

The technical basis is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, whose eight cores clock at up to 2.3 GHz (2 × Cortex-A76) and 1.8 GHz (6 × Cortex-A55). 4 gigabytes of LPDDR4X RAM are used as main memory, and 64 gigabytes of UFS are used as internal memory, which can be expanded via a microSD card. Mobile radio networks are not supported, so communication with the cloud gaming services from Nvidia and Microsoft must always take place via WLAN. According to Logitech, the battery life should be 12 hours or more. The console is charged via a single USB-C 3.1 port. The battery has a capacity of 6,000 mAh.

The Logitech G Cloud Gaming handheld is slimmer than the Nintendo Switch and Valve's Steam Deck, but at 463 grams it weighs slightly more than the 322 gram Switch and less than the 669 gram Steam Deck.

7-inch IPS display with 1080p

The display of the console measures 7 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 1,920 × 1,080 pixels, i.e. full HD in the 16:9 aspect ratio, on. It is an IPS panel with a touchscreen. The refresh rate of the display is fixed at 60 Hz. The handheld uses two analog sticks, a D-Pad, two shoulder buttons and four buttons – Y, B, A and X – which are complemented by menu buttons. The Logitech G-button pauses and ends games and the home button brings the user back to the start screen from anywhere. The handheld also has a gyroscope and vibration motors for haptic feedback for control purposes.

It is not yet known when the Logitech G Cloud Gaming handheld will be launched in Germany.
