Domestic. The EU Commission proposes that Sweden should be given the right to abolish the energy tax on fuel temporarily, for at least three months. A new bourgeois-led government may find it difficult to say no to the offer from the EU.

The EU Commission's proposal can be found in documents from the Commission to the EU's Council of Ministers that TT has seen.
The moderates, the Christian Democrats and the Sweden Democrats have campaigned for lower energy prices in the election campaign, if than with slightly different suggestions. It will therefore be difficult to maintain credibility if the proposal from the Commission were to be rejected.
The Council of Ministers, where representatives from the governments of the 27 EU countries sit, will soon decide on the issue.
