While AVM at the IFA 2022 in Berlin only presented the tri-band mesh repeater, which had already been announced in the run-up to the trade fair and is designed for high transmission rates of theoretically up to 4,200 Mbit/s via Wi-Fi 6 Fritz!Repeater 3000 AX, the manufacturer nevertheless spoke about a new top model at the trade fair.

During this year's IFA, the Deskmodder website was able to direct a few selected questions to Sebastian Luthe, AVM's press spokesman, which readers had previously been able to submit via the IP Phone Forum and various Telegram groups. With the potential “Fritz!Box 7690”, the manufacturer’s expected new ADSL/VDSL spearhead was also discussed DSL peak likely in 2023

A new ADSL/VDSL top model, a potential “Fritz!Box 7690 (AX)”, will most likely appear in the coming year appear, according to the spokesman. One of the reasons for a new DSL spearhead is the latest WiFi standard, WiFi 6E, which needs to be supported.

By analyzing the release cycles and already completed certifications of the frequencies in the lower 6 Ghz (W-iFi 6E) range this year, you can say with a high degree of probability that the successor will be presented in 2023.

However, Luthe emphasized that this is only his personal opinion, but in general one cannot “make any statements” about the successor to the Fritz!Box 7590.

Fritz!OS 7.50 is just around the corner

What is certain is the release of Fritz!OS 7.50, the new router operating system, which is currently in open beta testing as Fritz!Labor 7.39 and is said to be appearing in late summer for an expected 30 AVM products. In terms of mesh, the access point will not be determinable by the user even with the new firmware.

The end device always decides for itself whether it wants to follow this recommendation. In the new Fritz!OS 7.50, this query occurs twice in order to be able to use the best possible connection. It is not possible to manually specify which access point the end device should use.

With regard to new hybrid routers, which can use both DSL and fiber optics, for example, Luthe emphasized that the manufacturer already has a hybrid in its portfolio with the Fritz!Box 6890 LTE, “but will continue to monitor the market here”.

In addition to the Fritz!Repeater 3000 AX, various well-known products from the Fritz!DECT series and the four top router models Fritz!Box 7590 AX, Fritz!Box 6591 Cable, Fritz!Box 6850 5G and Fritz!Box were also on display 5590 Fiber.

Only the Fritz!Repeater 3000 AX was on display for the first time Mbps and 1,200 Mbps at 5 GHz and 600 Mbps at 2.4 GHz.

The Fritz!Repeater 3000 AX also has a dedicated 5 GHz backbone to the router and, like almost all current WLAN products from the manufacturer, is designed for mesh (test). The predecessor Fritz!Repeater 3000 (test) that was released in 2018 already offered this feature.
