The Focus G, which was released in mid-2017, is now followed by the Focus 2 in a total of three variants and two color schemes. The focus remains on a high airflow, which should be promoted by a mesh front and an open interior. As a result, the case leaves a lot of space for large components.
Two fans behind the mesh and in front of a lot of space
The Focus 2 Solid appears very inconspicuous. Behind a black mesh front, framed in a black plastic panel, are two 140 mm fans that move air through the steel, black ATX chassis. Three more fans can be installed in the rear and under the cover with mesh dust filter, but they are not included in the scope of delivery. Instead, the yawning, around 45 liter capacity inside should ensure a decent air flow: Fractal neither installs HDD boxes nor a cover for the maximum 250 mm long ATX power supply. Graphics cards that can be plugged into seven expansion slots can therefore have a length of up to 405 mm – so even the largest copies fit easily.

The same applies to the CPU cooler, which can be up to 170 mm high. This in turn is noticeable in the width of the Focus 2; 215 mm is a proud value, which also requires 19 mm of space for cable management on the back. The depth is 472 mm, the case is 451 mm high. However, there is only room for two 3.5-inch HDDs, which can be installed on the back just like two 2.5-inch SDDs. In theory, there is room for four more 2.5-inch drives, but the corresponding holders are not.
The Focus 2 Solid weighs 6.1 kg, the TG and TG-RGB versions are 300 g heavier. It combines a left side panel made of 3 mm thick tempered glass, which is attached with knurled screws, and an RGB controller on the IO panel, which otherwise only has 2 USB 3.0 sockets and HD audio. The RGB version also comes with two illuminated 140mm fans from the Aspect 14 series. Another difference can be found in the color scheme: While the closed Solid version is only available in black, Fractal Design also offers the Focus 2 TG and Focus 2 TG RGB in white, with the mesh, the inner workings and the edges of the glass side panel being black stay.

The recommended retail price of $70 for the Solid and TG variants and $80 for the TG-RGB version is also intended to justify easy hardware installation, a “clear design” and “high processing quality”. Fractal Design could not name prices in euros to ComputerBase even when asked, the reason being the current exchange rate fluctuations. A USB-C female I/O panel upgrade kit is available separately for $10. The new cases should be available immediately.
