Dell has introduced two new IPS monitors in the Alienware series for gamers. The AW2523HF uses Full HD with up to 360 Hz on 25 inches. The AW2723DF uses WQHD with 240 Hz; However, up to 280 Hz are possible via overclocking.

This offers high refresh rates in particular, which enable games to be displayed more smoothly, with fewer streaks and short latency.

The “Fast IPS” panel of the AW2523HF measures 24.5 inches diagonally, delivers 1,920 × 1,080 pixels and works at up to 360 Hz DisplayPort 1.4 (1 port) and 255 Hz via HDMI 2.0 (2 ports). Dell specifies the response time as a short 0.5 ms (GtG) as a minimum. AMD FreeSync Premium is supported up to 360 Hz. The typical brightness is 400 cd/m² and the contrast ratio is 1,000:1.

With the design with a hexagonal base, Alienware claims to have “obtained feedback from professional gamers”, who hope that this will give them more space for the mouse and keyboard on the desk. In any case, the product should be aimed at eSportsmen.

However, the RGB LED lighting effects (AlienFX) of some sister models have to be dispensed with. There is also no USB-C port. However, peripherals can be connected via a total of four USB-A downstream ports. The headset port is mandatory.

Dell Alienware AW2723DF

The larger AW2723DF, on the other hand, delivers 2,560 × 1,440 pixels on 27 inches and thus achieves a pixel density of 109 ppi (90 ppi for the AW2523HF). On the other hand, the refresh rate is slightly lower at 240 Hz natively and 280 Hz when overclocked via the DisplayPort 1.4. If one of the two HDMI 2.0 inputs is used, only 144 Hz is possible.

Dell speaks for the IPS panel of “Fast IPS Nano Color”, which indicates a nano-coating on the backlight that increases the color range. The color depth (effectively 10 bits) and the color spectrum are larger than in the little sister model. In addition, the display lights up with up to 600 cd/m² and meets the requirements for DisplayHDR 600.

The AW2723DF also offers more in other areas: This is an RGB LED -Lighting (AlienFX) available, which extends over three zones. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync Compatible are also advertised.

Pricing and Availability

The two Alienware newcomers should be available in Germany in autumn. Prices will be announced on Dell's website at launch.
