Adidas RPT-02 SOL: sports headphones charge themselves via solar cell

With the RPT-02 SOL, Adidas also brings headphones with a Powerfoyle solar cell in the headband, so that the integrated battery can be charged with all forms of light. Other headphones such as the Urbanista Los Angeles (test) are already using the technology that can replace charging from the socket Charging power light indicator

This is possible because Powerfoyle technology can convert both natural and artificial light into electrical energy. To help the user when the headphones have been taken off and are to be charged in the light, the RPT-02 SOL has a light display on the inside of the headband, which gives at least rudimentary information about the charging capacity. In this way, the user can optimize the orientation of the headphones to the sun or the light source and also compare the charging power of different light sources in order to achieve faster charging. But even without a light source, the wireless Adidas RPT-02 SOL should last a long time – Adidas claims a battery life of up to 80 hours. Charge status and battery level can be tracked in real time in the Adidas Headphones app.

5-way joystick and sweat-resistant design

Apart from the solar cell from the Swedish company Exeger, the RPT-02 SOL is very similar to its predecessor, the RPT-01 presented in 2019. As with the RPT-01, a 5-way joystick is used to control playback. Up/down increases and decreases volume, left/right skips a track forward or backward, and a short press starts or pauses playback. The new model also uses fabric on the removable ear cups so that they can be easily cleaned. The fabric inside of the hanger can also be removed for washing. The headphones are protected against splash water and sweat according to IPX4.

Adidas has not yet announced any further technical details for the RPT-02 SOL, but they are likely to be largely identical to the RPT-01.
