In the weekly App Missed section you can read which apps from the past week are worth checking out. We always discuss about five apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac. These could be apps that you may not have known about or that are useful or just funny to try. And that can also be veterans who have received a major update and therefore receive some extra attention.

Discussed earlier this week on iCulture:

  • Amazon Prime Video has new design: This is what the app looks like on the Apple TV
  • 1Password 8 for iOS has a new design and expands the Watchtower function
  • WhatsApp rolls out three new privacy functions (including &eacute ;éa long-awaited feature)

iCulture App of the Week: Batteries Last week, the new battery symbol for iOS 16 was a popular topic of conversation on social media, among others. The new symbol (finally?) shows the battery percentage again on many iPhone models. Are you a fan of it and would you like to see the same symbol on the Mac? Now you can with the Batteries app! The app has been around for some time for other battery-related functions and has quickly replicated this.

The symbol will be there, if you that is, look just like the latest iOS 16 beta. That is, the numbers in the battery symbol and a changing color based on status. When you are charging, it will turn green, for example. Other features of Batteries include checking the battery levels of other devices and receiving notifications when they are low.

You can download Batteries from the developer's website. The app is included with Setapp.

WePlog

Ever heard of planning? That is a combination of walking and cleaning up plastic and other waste. The first Utrecht Plandeldag will take place on 27 August, an initiative of journalist Anton Damen (also known as the Plandelman). To celebrate the 900th anniversary of the city of Utrecht, he calls on people to come and plan. The goal is to clear 900 streets of waste. With the WePlog app (derived from plogging, the jog variant of plan sharing) you can do this much easier. In the app you can see which areas have already been cleaned up and where there is a greater chance of waste. You can register at www.plandelen.nl and see how you can order a special gripper and t-shirt.

radioNED+

The radioNED+ app has received a nice extra since this week, namely its own Apple Watch app. Lets you listen to a radio station that you started from your Apple Watch. You can also pause and skip to other channels. Currently the app is free for everyone, but we expect that you will have to pay in a while when all the features are ready. The app is still in a testing phase. It will be possible to listen to your favorite stations.

LaunchPadder

For anyone who uses the Launchpad on the Mac, LaunchPadder can be a great app. Or maybe using Launchpad will help you if you don't already. Launchpad lets you view all the apps on your Mac in a sort of iPad view. You can organize this yourself and create folders, but that could be more convenient.

LaunchPadder can sort your apps by alphabet, color, type, use and more. In addition, the app adjusts the size of the apps. Handy if you find it too busy or if something can be added. You can download LaunchPadder from the developer's website.
