Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and 20.04 LTS: Canonical releases kernel security updates

The British Linux distributor Canonical publishes Linux Kernel Security Updates for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (“Jammy Jellyfish”) and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (“Focal Fossa”), thereby closing security gaps in its operating systems. The fixed vulnerabilities could lead to a Denial of Service (DoS).

Security updates close eight vulnerabilities

The latest free operating system kernel Linux 5.15.0.46.46 for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, which has also been upgraded to Linux kernel 5.15 LTS via the Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE), is now available for download and fixes the following eight distribution vulnerabilities:

Canonical strongly recommends all users to update the kernel packages of their systems running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and Ubuntu 20.04 LTS as well as Linux 5.15 LTS to the new versions immediately for security reasons. To do this, the following command can be executed via the command line:

sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

The vulnerabilities allow a local attacker to specifically crash the system with a denial of service and run arbitrary malware on it.

Updates for AWS, Google, IBM, Oracle and Azure

The latest kernel security updates have also been released for Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform and Google Container Engine systems, as well as IBM Cloud systems, Oracle Cloud systems and Microsoft Azure.
