90 million units of iPhone 14

Apple therefore does not expect a decline in iPhone sales. The global smartphone market is in a downward trend, but for iPhone 14 production Apple is sticking to the same numbers as last year for the iPhone 13. Bloomberg claims that based on collected information. Apple expects to sell about 220 million iPhones by 2022, comparable to 2021. Bloomberg sources say Apple has confidence in its customers and expects them to be willing to spend money on premium products.

Before 2021, Apple was still manufacturing around 75 million devices, but with the arrival of the iPhone 13, that went up to 90 million units because Apple expected a lot of demand. That prediction turned out to be true. It remains to be seen whether it will be like that again this year. However, Apple CFO Luca Maestri is confident: in the latest quarterly figures, he said sales will rise in the September quarter and supply chain shortages will no longer be as dire as they were in the June quarter.

The biggest change this year is that there will probably be no successor to the iPhone 13 mini, but that Apple will opt for the larger iPhone 14 Max. This could attract additional buyers, while few innovations are expected with the normal iPhone 14.

Most of the attention in the announcement of the new devices will probably be focused on the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro, which seems to be more expensive than ever this year. The notch has been replaced by a hole and a pill-shaped camera cutout, there is a 48-megapixel camera and a faster A16 chip. There will also be a lot of attention for the always on screen in the iPhone 14, if the rumors are true.
