Spotify: separation between music and podcasts

Spotify has been trying to promote podcasts for some time, a topic that Apple has somewhat neglected in recent years. As a result, all kinds of content were lumped together: if you were in the mood to listen to music, Spotify served you a series of podcasts. That could be better, they think at Spotify. It now becomes easier to distinguish between music and podcasts. The new home screen is already available for Android users and will come “in the future” also to iOS.

At first glance, there isn't much of a difference. But if you look more closely, you will see two different buttons for ‘Music’ and ‘Podcasts & Shows'. You'll then see different feeds: recommendations based on the music you've been listening to or new episodes of your favorite shows. They are in fact filters. Everyone benefits: music lovers no longer get podcasts pushed under their noses and for podcast lovers the app looks more like a podcast app. Now it's easier to open the app and start listening to your favorite shows right away.

Spotify wants to become the largest provider of podcasts. In addition, it is examined whether there is money to be made with video, with the ultimate goal of Spotify becoming a one-stop-shop where you can find everything related to audio: from music to podcasts, live audio and audiobooks.
