iPadOS 16 release: in October?
It is common that the important updates always come at the same time in the fall. Only macOS sometimes wants to appear later. Everything could be different this year. According to Gurman, Apple has plans to postpone iPad OS 16 by a month, so it won't come until October. macOS Ventura would also be planned for later in the fall. Gurman has heard of it from knowledgeable people who don't want to be called by name. The delay is said in part to be related to Apple's ambitious plans to improve the iPad's multitasking capabilities.
iPadOS 16 includes Stage Manager, which allows you to have multiple apps in view at the same time and where the windows can overlap. You can adjust the size of the windows and easily switch between different groups of apps. During the beta period (which is currently still running), complaints have been received from developers and users. It would have bugs, the interface is confusing and it won't work on most iPads.
Advancing the release of iPadOS 16 also helps Apple better focus on finishing iOS 16, Gurman reports . More software engineers can then temporarily be put on the development of iOS 16. watchOS 9 is also expected in September, but macOS Ventura will arrive a month later, as usual: in October.
Moving iPadOS 16 to the fall could also help ensure it more closely coincides with the release of new iPads, which are expected to arrive in October. For example, an iPad Pro with M2 chip is planned and a faster entry-level model with USB-c port, Bloomberg reports. The news site notes that software releases this year are already a bit behind schedule. For example, the public beta became available later than usual.
Apple has already announced that certain features of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 will come later, such as Live Activities and a whiteboard app called Freeform.
