Windows 11: Subsystem for Android supports controllers

The Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) gets a feature update with version 2206.40000.15.0 to support controllers and joysticks in games. Nevertheless, the WSA remains without any function in this country. Under Windows 11, the WSA and the Amazon Appstore are still only available for users with a US account.

Windows subsystem for Android still always without function

Apart from the third-party apps “WSATools” and “WSA Toolbox”, which serve as app installers for the Android packages (.APK), the new subsystem for Android (WSA) cannot yet be used outside the USA. The Amazon Appstore Preview can already be found on the website and in the Microsoft Store since Windows 11 Build 22000.194. However, these are still pure placeholders.

Microsoft already had the relevant system requirements for using the Amazon Appstore Preview and the WSA on Windows in October of last year Blog announced.

To get started:

  • Your PC needs to be on Windows 11 Build 22000 or higher and meet these hardware requirements.
  • You may need to enable virtualization for your PC's BIOS/UEFI. Click here for a guide on how to enable this on your PC.
  • Your PCs' region must be set to the U.S.
  • Your PC must be in the Beta Channel. If you are new to the Windows Insider Program, click here to get started with registration and joining your PC to the Beta Channel.
  • You will also need to have a US-based Amazon account to use the Amazon Appstore .

Extended functionality

According to the official release notes, the latest update has numerous improvements in store, stay for Users in this country but initially without any benefit.

Windows 11 22H2 should bring apps for Android

Following the final release of autumn 2022 -Updates alias Windows 11 22H2 alias Sun Valley 2, which in the meantime has already appeared as a preview in the Dev Channel and in the Release Preview Channel and will be distributed in waves from late summer to autumn as usual, the Windows subsystem for Android is expected to be released finally celebrating its premiere in Germany.

The use of Android apps under Windows was one of the central components when introducing Windows 11. Google Play Games for Windows PCs too is still only available in Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan.
