OnePlus plans to provide an open beta of OxygenOS 13 based on Android 13 for the OnePlus 10 Pro later this month. The final version of the operating system should follow later in the year, also for the OnePlus 10T, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 8 series and for numerous Nord smartphones.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is set to get OxygenOS 13 first, followed later in the year by the OnePlus 10T, which will launch on August 25 with OxygenOS 12.1. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, OnePlus 8, 8T and 8 Pro as well as the OnePlus Nord 2, 2T, CE, CE 2 and CE 2 Lite still have to make do without an appointment. Other devices remain on OxygenOS 12.

Aquamorphic Design

OxygenOS 13 builds on OnePlus' baptized “Aquamorphic Design,” which the manufacturer describes as “soothing, natural, and versatile,” featuring minimalist icons, animations, and a variety of shapes and textures. The design is characterized by rounded edges in all areas of the operating system and adapts to external light conditions over the course of the day. The colors should be lighter in the morning and steadily darker over the course of the day until sunset. Widgets on the home screen now reveal more details about a long hold and therefore no longer have to be forced open by the user.

OS should be faster and more stable

OnePlus promises smoother and more stable operation, which should benefit from the “AI Booster System”. Several intelligent memory management systems should allow multiple applications to be stopped at the same time so that users can switch from one app to another more quickly. It remains to be seen whether the user will deliberately have problems with applications running in the background.

New always-on display functions

The manufacturer is providing new designs for the always-on display (AOD) and has announced a cooperation with Spotify to make the streaming app's playlists quickly accessible on the AOD. In India only, food deliveries from service providers Zomato and Swiggy can be tracked on the OxygenOS 13 AOD.

Launcher turns folders into widgets

In addition to the new native widgets, the new smart launcher of the operating system is characterized by widget-like folders on the home screen, which are already stored in the large, open view and therefore do not have to be opened again to access the apps they contain. The folder then becomes a kind of widget with smaller app icons. Also new is the Sidebar Toolbox, which can be opened by swiping across the edge of the screen and is intended to facilitate one-handed access to frequently used applications.

Spatial Audio, Fast Pair and Nearby Share

Among the new features of OxygenOS 13 is also the HyperBoost game engine, which has already been integrated into OxygenOS 12.1 for the OnePlus 10T and is intended to ensure consistently high performance when gaming. Also moving into the operating system are Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos, Google's native Fast Pair, Audio Switch to seamlessly switch from one headphone to another, Nearby Share and app streaming to Chrome OS devices.

OxygenOS 13 is also said to improve in the areas of data protection and security, for example with warnings about risky apps and downloads or hiding the location in public Wi-Fi hotspots. With Private Safe 2.0, data, documents and media files can be stored in a virtual safe that other apps cannot access.
