How the new Belkin Continuity Camera mounts work in macOS Ventura

Apple has had a feature called Continuity Camera for the Mac and iPhone for years, but macOS Ventura greatly expands this feature. You can use the iPhone as a webcam for your Mac, including the new Desk View option. After all, your iPhone has the best camera of all Apple devices, while Macs are known as Apple devices that often do not provide the best camera quality (although the latest MacBooks have improved a lot). But to use the function, you do need an accessory that allows you to hang your iPhone on your MacBook. Apple has partnered with Belkin to provide two MagSafe holders to attach your iPhone to your Mac.

Belkin with Mac iPhone Holders for Continuity Camera

The first holder is a MagSafe holder with a simple clip that you can fold out. You can hang your iPhone on the screen of your MacBook, without the holder getting in the way. The holder ensures that your iPhone hangs exactly in the right place. MagSafe makes it easy to magnetically attach it to your iPhone and remove it when you don't need it.

The second version is intended for larger screens, such as Apple's Pro Display XDR that does not have a built-in camera. This is a black holder that can also be attached via MagSafe and can be placed on top of the screen. During the WWDC presentation, Apple already showed what both holders will look like. The exact name and price of the holders is unknown. We do know that both versions will be available later this year. So you do need an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 device.

A number of YouTubers have already been able to test the new holder in an early version. This is the variant that is intended for your MacBook. What emerged from that hands-on is that the iPhone automatically connects via your Mac as soon as you hang it on your Mac with this holder (or another holder). Thanks to the holder, the iPhone hangs quite stable. You just have to unfold the small clip. There is also a silver clip with a round hole that you can fold out to make it easier to pull the holder off your iPhone, but it also has another function. For example, you can use it as a kind of ring to hold your iPhone more easily, but also to place your iPhone tilted.

We think these Belkin Continuity Camera mounts will be available sometime this fall, exclusively from Apple, once macOS Ventura is available to everyone. We expect the update to be available for download in October or November. We will update this article as soon as the pricing and release of these Belkin holders is known.
