No Man's Sky: The 20th free update reworks space freighters

After six years of product maintenance, Endurance is the 20th free update for No Man's Sky – just in time for the birthday: Hello Games'. Space exploration game originally released for PlayStation 4 and PC in August 2016. In particular, there are numerous new construction options for space freighters.

The focus is on customizable freighters

From now on, players can build much more freely on the freighters added with Patch 1.1 and, for example, add new dedicated rooms, such as an agriculture module for plant breeding. Also with numerous new decorative elements, doors and outer windows, an observation deck and platforms as well as webs on the outer shell, the customization of the large spaceships has been significantly upgraded, according to Hello Games. In addition, there are now specialized crew members who move freely on the freighters, there are also visits from hired frigate captains and squadron pilots, improved textures and more details.

Aside from the freighters, there are numerous other new or improved gameplay mechanics. The asteroid fields will be more varied in the future and the space nebulae will be visually upgraded. There are now space storms and organic frigates; the animations for black holes have been adjusted and there are also some quality-of-life improvements when building your own bases. The detailed patch notes provide an overview of the full list of changes.

A living update history

No Man's Sky can look back on an eventful development history. At the start, the title had to deal with numerous problems, missing content and disappointed players. However, Hello Games did not throw it away, but improved bit by bit with free updates, so that the space game has now outgrown the ambitions that initially seemed too big.

No Man's Sky is available for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S and PC. The game is also included in Game Pass. The release on Nintendo Switch is planned for October 7, 2022 – the release was originally planned for this summer. Versions are also in the works for macOS and PlayStation VR.
