The LG 49WQ95C offers the resolution of two adjacent WQHD monitors with 5,120 × 1,440 pixels in the wide 32:9 format with a 49-inch diagonal. The IPS panel is slightly curved and runs at up to 144 Hz. Two HDMI 2.0 sockets, which cannot handle 144 Hz at native resolution, meet the USB-C and KVM switch.

The LG 49WQ95C is a successor to the LG 49WL95C (test). At first glance, there are only a few differences apart from the significantly higher refresh rate of 144 Hz instead of 60 Hz.

“Nano-IPS” for more colors

An IPS panel with a radius of 3.8 meters is also used, but it now offers more colors as “Nano-IPS” with an additional backlight coating. The large DCI-P3 color space should be covered by 98 percent. The brightness should reach 400 cd/m² in certain areas, which is sufficient for the DisplayHDR 400 standard, which is often considered superfluous due to the low requirements. The response time should remain unchanged at 5 ms.

HDMI 2.0 isn't enough for 144 Hz

In terms of design, LG remains true to the series with a white case and silver-colored, crescent-shaped stand. The connections also largely correspond to the model presented at the end of 2018 with one DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.0, and one USB-C. However, two of the USB-A ports have been eliminated, leaving only the two side sockets. HDMI 2.0 is too slow for the native resolution of 144 Hz, so only the DisplayPort or the DisplayPort Alt Mode of USB-C remains. A headphone output and integrated speakers are also available.

KVM switch integrated

Thanks to “Dual Controller”, two connected systems can be controlled in the style of a KVM switch with the same mouse and keyboard via the monitor. The stand allows height adjustment as well as tilting and minimal pivoting (swivel) of only 15 degrees in each direction. There is no pivot on such wide monitors.

According to the website DisplaySpecifications, a price of around 1,700 US dollars is expected. However, LG has not officially announced a price recommendation or provided any information on availability. An LG website reveals more details.

Monitors of this size with the resolution called “Dual QHD” are available from around 840 euros. The aforementioned predecessor LG 49WL95C currently costs around 1,030 euros.
