Apex Legends was released in early 2019 as a multiplayer shooter with a battle royale game concept. In the meantime, the brand has blossomed into a lucrative live service game for publisher EA, so that a second game in the universe is apparently in development, as is now speculated on the basis of job advertisements.
Respawn is looking for developers for an Apex game
Dexerto first noticed some recruiting requests on the Respawn Entertainment website. For example, the developer is recruiting for a senior systems engineer for C++, and they are also looking for a hard surface artist. In both cases, a project called “Apex Universe FPS Incubation” is to be worked on – obviously it's about a new first-person shooter. That there is talk of an Apex universe seems a bit strange, since Apex Legends originally started as a Battle Royale offshoot of the Titanfall series.
Otherwise, the job descriptions are, as expected, quite vague. It's about “intoxicating gameplay and fantastic gaming experiences”, the project is a “dream playground” for developers with great freedom for innovation, which is due to the Apex universe. At least it is clear that this is a single player title.

As an official confirmation for a new apex shooter, this is not to be taken up, but the burden of proof is overwhelming. In addition, it seems quite possible that the story of Apex Legends should be told in a stand-alone game – a battle royale shooter is ultimately hardly able to do so. So far, the story has primarily found space in other media, including short films, for example. The same applies to Overwatch, whose story is to be told within a PvE mode from the beginning of 2023 – although this is not an independent game.
There is no lack of projects
Respawn Entertainment only granted a Titanfall 3 A cancellation a few months ago – the studio is currently busy with too many other projects. Meanwhile, it was already recognized in January that the developer belonging to EA was working on a new brand – the ambiguous situation does not allow any conclusion as to whether the apex shooter can be meant. However, Respawn Entertainment is also working on three other games, all of which can be found in the Star Wars universe. Firstly, there would be Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the successor to Fallen Order (test), secondly, another shooter is in development and thirdly, there should be a Star Wars strategy game.
