Square Enix has now announced that the action role-playing game Forspoken will not be released this year. The new release date is January 24, 2023. “Ongoing discussions with key partners” are cited as the reason for the postponement.

What these discussions are about and about which partners are involved is left to the imagination of outsiders. Square Enix also speaks of a strategic decision. The game was originally supposed to be released on October 11, 2022.

Development almost complete

As far as the development work is concerned, there seems to be no reason for delays. All elements of the game are now complete and only fine-tuning is being done, according to the statement on Twitter. The team plans to reveal more about the title later this summer.

RPG adventure mix with new technology

Forspoken is a fantasy action role-playing game with adventure elements that is being developed by Luminous Productions. The title is also interesting from a technical point of view, as it is one of the first games to support Microsoft's DirectStorage programming interface, which is supposed to reduce loading times by making better use of the SSD. Furthermore, Forspoken should also support AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 (FSR 2.0). The features were presented in the following technology trailer.
