iPhone Pro gets newest chip

We already expect that the iPhone 14 chip will be split in two. Bloomberg analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman previously claimed that only the iPhone 14 Pro models will be equipped with an A16 chip, while the normal models will have a (possibly souped up) A15 chip. Now Kuo is back with a new prediction: from now on, the entry-level, mid-range and normal models will get an earlier-generation chip. Only the Pro iPhones get the very latest processor.

This creates a larger gap between the normal models and the Pro models. Kuo thinks it's a conscious decision to sell more Pro models. He previously expected that 40-50 percent of the models sold will be a Pro device, but now he has adjusted his expectation to 60 percent. Kuo writes it in a blog post on Medium. In this way, Apple can sell more expensive devices on average, resulting in more turnover.

Earlier, the impression was created that it had something to do with chip shortages, which prevented Apple from producing enough A16 chips. But according to a Kuo, it is a conscious financial choice. In addition to the normal models of each iPhone series, the entry-level models in the SE series will also be equipped with an older chip. That is special, because until now it has always been the case that all iPhones get the latest chip. For example, the entire iPhone 13 series is equipped with an A15 Bionic chip, which you will also find in the later entry-level model iPhone SE 2022.

There was already a split with the iPads
With iPads it is different: there it is expected that the upcoming entry-level iPad from 2022 will be equipped with an A14 chip, which was already introduced two years ago. dates. The Pro and Air do run on the latest M1 chip.

It does happen that Apple keeps certain functions exclusive with the iPhone. For example, in 2017 the iPhone X appeared with a new design and Face ID, while the iPhone 8 series had hardly changed compared to the iPhone 7. They all ran on the A11 Bionic ship, the fastest at the time. With the iPhone 14, that could change, with the Pro models becoming a lot more interesting, with an updated notch design, vastly improved cameras and other features that the normal models don't get.

According to Kuo and Bloomberg, the standard versions of the iPhone 14 will have an A15 chip, which may contain more RAM (from 4GB to 6GB).
