Schenker (XMG) 2022: Fusion 15 with GeForce instead of Arc, new Pro, Via & Works

Schenker presents innovations in four notebook series. Among them is the 2nd generation of the gaming notebook XMG Fusion 15 (test), which was very successful in 2019, but which is completely different than expected. The XMG Pro 15 & 17, VIA 15 Pro and the Work series.

XMG Fusion 15 (M22): Without arc and more like “M21”

Two years have passed since Schenker added the XMG Fusion 15 (test), a gaming notebook developed by Intel in cooperation with global partners, with a 10th generation core CPU and GeForce RTX 2000 GPU to its range. The conclusion of the editors was positive: “Simple, light, fast and persistent” was the title of the test at the time.

But then nothing happened at Schenker while Adata launched a new edition with the Intel Core i7-11800 and GeForce RTX 3070 laptop GPU in autumn 2021 with the XPG Xenia 15 KC.

But Schenker had other plans: At the beginning of 2022, the plan was to use the next generation for the new edition, which should come with a CPU and GPU from Intel – i.e. Intel Arc Mobile. But Intel's delays with Arc (mobile) thwarted that plan.

In order to still give the Fusion 15 from the end of 2019 a fresh cell treatment, which has meanwhile clearly aged, Schenker now also offers the model with Tiger Lake-H (Core i7-11800) and GeForce RTX 3070 (125+20 watts) or 3060 laptop GPU (120+ 10 watts), both of which have a higher TDP than the predecessors, for which the chassis has become one millimeter thicker for better dissipation. However, the notebook only draws on the additional 10 or 20 watts of GPU power consumption when the cooling system is set to maximum performance.

The display, which changes from Full HD, 144 Hertz and up to 300 cd/m² to WQHD, 165 Hertz and up to 350 cd/m², also makes a big leap compared to the 1st generation. There is no MUX switch, so the image is always output via the iGPU, even if the dGPU renders the image.

Schenker also knows that the model variant “M22” (Mid 2022) is actually an “M21” model and offers the entry-level model for 1,499 euros instead of 1,599 euros for the predecessor, although it has much more to offer. The new XMG Fusion 15 is available now.

XMG Pro 15 and Pro 17 (M22)

The XMG Pro series is also being relaunched with both a 15 and 17 inch display. The series bids farewell to the “thin&light” approach introduced in 2021, when the series switched from 30 to 20 mm high chassis and thus less powerful hardware.

With a height of 25 mm, the new models are right in the middle and thus allow the use of CPUs up to the Core i9-12900H and GPUs up to the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU with a maximum of 135 watts TGP. Both models are available with different displays, the choice of which also depends on whether a MUX switch (test) is installed, which allows the GeForce to address the internal display directly.

The basic configuration of the XMG Pro 15 includes Intel Core i7-12700H, GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU, 16 (2×8) GB DDR4-3200, a 500 GB Samsung 980 SSD and a 144 Hz Full HD IPS display and will cost 1,979 euros. The XMG Pro 17 starts with a 165 Hz fast WQHD IPS display and RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPU for 2,499 euros. The models are available now.

VIA 15 Pro: Ultra Book with Ryzen 7 5700U

Symbol for the supply problems at AMD Ryzen 6000 is the new Schenker VIA 15 Pro, which houses a Ryzen 7 5700U, whose cores are still based on Zen 2, in the 15-inch chassis that weighs only 1.45 kilograms. Prices start at 1,249 euros, the product can be delivered immediately.

Schenker Work 15 & 17

In mid-July, Schenker will also be able to deliver new versions of Work 15 and Work 17, which are based on the 12th generation Intel Core based on Alder Lake-P, i.e. the slightly throttled Alder Lake H CPUs. The predecessors are based on Tiger Lake-H, i.e. the 11th generation Core.

ComputerBase has received information about this article from Schenker under NDA. The only specification was the earliest possible publication date.
