With the Galaxy XCover6 Pro, Samsung has introduced a new outdoor smartphone that combines modern equipment with a robust design with a 120 Hz display, 5G support and 50 megapixel camera. There are also features such as a replaceable battery. Samsung is targeting businesses with its smartphone.
With the Galaxy XCover6 Pro, Samsung wants to address the B2B segment in particular and sees the smartphone as a robust companion for suppliers, sales staff or police officers, for example. The manufacturer uses recycled plastics for the MIL-STD-810H and IP68-certified housing and protects the 6.6-inch, 120-Hz screen (PLS LCD) with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+. The manufacturer promises that the smartphone should be able to withstand extreme weather conditions, falls and other situations when working outdoors. The “Touch Sensitivity” mode can be activated for operation with gloves up to 2 mm thick, and the “Wet Touch” mode also allows the operation of a slightly damp smartphone.
Five years of updates
Samsung also includes the software area in terms of the longevity of the smartphone. Similar to Nokia with the XR20 (test), not only the hardware should last for many years. The Galaxy XCover6 Pro will receive Android and One UI updates for at least four years from the July 2022 launch, and security updates for a guaranteed five years. Nokia introduced the XR20 after three (Android) and four (security) years of updates.
The most modern outdoor smartphone
According to the specifications, the Galaxy XCover6 Pro is by far the most powerful outdoor and rugged smartphone, after the XR20 has also held this title so far. However, the Snapdragon 778 installed in the Samsung smartphone clearly surpasses the Snapdragon 480 in Nokia. The Qualcomm chip, manufactured in 6 nm, includes four faster Arm Cortex-A78 and a more powerful GPU with the Adreno 642L. Both smartphones support 5G, but the Galaxy XCover6 Pro also has the latest Wi-Fi 6E Wi-Fi standard. The internal memory is 128 GB and can be expanded via a microSD card without having to sacrifice the dual SIM function.
Removable battery with pogo option
However, the equipment also includes traditional features such as a 3.5 mm jack socket and a removable battery. The energy storage delivers 4,050 mAh and can be charged with 15 watts via USB-C 3.2 Gen 1. In the LTE network, the smartphone should enable up to 18 hours of internet or up to 44 hours of telephoning. The manufacturer specifies video and music playback with up to 20 hours and up to 115 hours. Pogo pins for multi-device/battery chargers and charging cradle can be used as paid accessories. Accessories such as belt clips or PTT headsets are also planned.
Programmable keys
For corporate requirements, the smartphone has two programmable buttons that can be personalized with certain functions. Samsung's Knox Capture, which will be available in Q3 as part of the one-year free Knox Suite, can be used for barcode scanning, for example. The Galaxy XCover6 Pro also has a push-to-talk function so that it can be used with the appropriate apps like a walkie-talkie. The volume can be increased especially for voice apps.
Enterprise Edition for 609 euros
Samsung is bringing the Galaxy XCover6 Pro to Germany in the Enterprise Edition for 609 euros. However, the Enterprise Edition of the Galaxy XCover 5 can be found online and is therefore also offered to consumers. The new rugged model will also be available in other markets in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
