Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica/O2 expand 5G roaming opportunities inside and outside the EU. So far limited to very few countries, fast mobile communications can now also be used abroad. Telekom is the broadest, followed by Vodafone and O2 is there for the first time.

When roaming, the home SIM card can remain in the smartphone and, with the appropriate setting, can also be used in a foreign network. Within the EU and, depending on the provider, also in Great Britain, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, roaming is possible free of charge. Outside the EU, appropriate packages must be booked or higher costs for telephony and data must be accepted. So far, roaming was primarily limited to LTE, 5G could only be used with a German SIM card in very few countries.
