New versions of the two open source projects Krita and digiKam have been released for the Windows, macOS and Linux platforms. While the free drawing and graphics program Krita 5.1.0, published by the Krita Foundation, which is part of the KDE community, is a beta, digiKam 7.7 is already finished.
Krita 5.1 improves interoperability
Krita is a free, open-source painting program that allows you to create drawings with a wide range of image editing options. In addition, Krita supports the editing of PSD files created in Photoshop and offers extensive training material. It also supports HDR content editing while speeding up numerous processes with OpenGL.
In the latest beta version of Krita 5.1.0, in addition to the obligatory optimizations and error corrections, the following innovations should also be included flow.

With the release of Krita 5.0.0, the core of the resource management program has already migrated to an SQLite-type database, which is intended to provide additional speed and stability. Version 5.1.0 should be able to improve performance even more by using XSIMD.

digiKam 7.7 for Windows, macOS and Linux
The free image management program digiKam has been released in the new version 7.7 for Windows, macOS and Linux and provides support for AVIF and the Olympus OM-1.
A neural engine based on the AI-API OpenCV is set to further expand artificial intelligence support, while closing over 1,300 reports on Bugzilla for the release.
Support for the AOM AV1 Image File Format (AVIF) and JPEG-XL and improved support for DNG, TIFF and GIF files are new, as is the use of the latest KDE Framework 5.95. The developers, who also come from the KDE community supported by KDE e.V., have released digiKam 7.7 for Windows, macOS and Linux for download.
While digiKam 7.7 is based on current Rolling Releases with KDE Plasma is already in the rollout, Krita 5.1.0 will only find its way into the repositories with the final release.
