After Realme with the GT Neo 3(T), Vivo, the second brand of the Chinese BKK Electronics group, is launching a smartphone on the German market that was previously only available in China. However, the X80 Pro is not a mid-range device, but Vivo's absolute top model. There are plenty of features for 1,299 euros.
Vivo's highlight is the new camera system
For Vivo, the new camera system of the X80 Pro is the real highlight of the smartphone. The main camera system consists of four individual cameras:
- Wide angle: 50 MP, 23 mm, 85°, f/1.57, 1.2 μm, OIS, auto focus, Samsung ISOCELL GNV 1/1.31″
- Ultra wide angle: 48 MP, 14 mm, 114°, f/2.2, 0.8 μm, auto focus, Sony IMX598, 1 /2″
- Portrait/Videos: 12 MP, 50 mm, ?, f/1.85, 1.22 μm, OIS+Gimbal, Zoom (2×), Auto Focus, Sony IMX663, 1/2.93″
- Tele: 8 MP, 125 mm, ?, f/3.4, 1.0 μm, OIS, zoom (5×), auto focus, 1/4.4″
The 50 MP camera used for standard photos relies on an ISOCELL photo sensor (GNV, V for Vivo) including OIS adapted by Samsung for Vivo. The ultra-wide-angle and portrait cameras rely on Sony photo sensors.

Video camera with OIS plus gimbal
The 12 MP portrait camera, which is also used for videos, has a gimbal known from the Vivo X60 Pro (test), also known as a gimbal. The X60 Pro offered the gimbal without separate stabilization of the lenses (OIS) and I couldn't set it apart from the competition. The X80 Pro now offers Gimbal and OIS.
For the large telephoto, which is also stabilized by OIS, Vivo uses a so-called periscope zoom to compensate for the lack of construction depth using prisms. The ultra-wide-angle camera is not physically stabilized.
The selfie camera of the Vivo X80 Pro uses a 32-megapixel sensor (24 mm, 80°, f/2.45, 1/2.8”, 0.8 μm), vivo does not reveal the chip manufacturer.
The camera system is reminiscent of that of the Vivo X Fold, but differs from it in the details .
Zeiss photo modes also thanks to Vivo V1+
The new camera system should not only enable better recordings in the photo and video modes known from Vivo, but also master new ones in Functions developed in cooperation with Zeiss. They not only use the Image Signaling Processor (ISP) in Qualcomm's SoC, but also use Vivo's own ISP V1+, which the manufacturer already presented in April.
Zeiss Natural Color and Cinematic Style Bokeh
The new Zeiss Natural Color photo mode is intended to enable photos that appear particularly natural in terms of color – i.e. not to follow the trend of oversaturated, high-contrast smartphone photos. Also new is the Zeiss Cinematic Style Bokeh function in the portrait camera, which aims to give photos the “classic Hollywood aesthetic” by adding a cinematic-style artificial bokeh (depth of field effect). The effects are “enhanced with Vivo's film lens simulation algorithm and dual-camera depth-of-field technology that combines rendering and flare processing.”
Zeiss Cinematic Video Bokeh
The “Hollywood bokeh effect” can be used not only in photos, but also in videos in real time. There, Vivo calls the feature Zeiss Cinematic Video Bokeh.
Zeiss Superb Night Camera
Night shots should also reach a new level. Vivo promises even better recordings in extreme darkness, which are bright but reproduce the scenery correctly.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 12GB RAM and 256GB NAND
The Vivo X80 Pro relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which the manufacturer in Germany always combines with 12 GB LPDDR5 (6,400 MT/s) and 256 GB NAND flash (UFS 3.1). The memory cannot be expanded because the dual nano SIM slots also only accept SIM cards. The “Ultra Large Liquid Cooling Vapor Chamber” is designed to quickly dissipate the SoC's waste heat.
AMOLED display with up to 1,500 cd/m²
The image is output via a 6.78-inch AMOLED display from Samsung, which can shine up to 1,500 cd/m² brightly. However, this only applies to the selective peak brightness. Typically it should be 500 cd/m², in “High Brightness Mode”, which is activated by direct sunlight, it is up to 1,000 cd/m². The resolution is 3,200×1,440 in the format 20:9, the refresh rate is 120 Hertz.
Ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner
Vivo has also significantly expanded the fingerprint scanner positioned under the display of the X80 Pro, which uses ultrasound instead of a camera like the Axon A40 Ultra, for example, and now covers a larger area. The Vivo X Fold or the Samsung Galaxy S22 also use this technology, which comes from Qualcomm.

Charging: 80 watts with cable, 50 watts without
The Vivo X80 Pro has a battery with a capacity of 4,700 mAh. It can be charged via Vivo FlashCharge either with up to 80 watts via USB Type C (USB 3.2 Gen 1 with 5 Gbit/s), or with up to 50 watts wirelessly. It should be possible to fully charge the battery in 36 or 50 minutes. Included is an 80 watt (20 volt, 4 amp) USB Type-C power adapter, the wireless charging station must be purchased separately.

Key technical data at a glance
The following table lists all the key technical data of the Vivo X80 Pro in a compact form. The overview reveals another interesting detail: the smartphone has an infrared transmitter, which is rare these days, so it can act as a classic remote control.
