Deutsche Telekom is renewing its mobile phone tariffs for private customers on July 1 and was inspired by the business model of its US colleagues: More SIM cards mean lower prices. In addition, the data volume increases with the same base prices across the board. StreamOn will no longer be available to new customers from July.
The business model of many US providers is: more lines (“lines”) = lower costs (per person). Deutsche Telekom will also be pursuing this approach from July 1, while remaining true to an earlier credo of not wanting to compete with other providers for the lowest price. The basic prices will therefore remain identical to the previous MagentaMobil portfolio with the upcoming changeover, instead there is more performance for the same money compared to the basic price Data volume in all tariffs
The new portfolio still consists of the MagentaMobil XS, S, M, L and XL tariffs at basic prices of 34.95, 39.95, 49.95, 59.95 and 84.95 euros. The prices remain the same as the current offer, with the MagentaMobil XS with 5 GB data volume marking the start again after an abstinence, after MagentaMobil S is currently the smallest variant. With MagentaMobil S, M and L, the data volume increases from 6 GB to 10 GB (S), 12 GB to 20 GB (M) and 24 GB to 40 GB (L). The MagentaMobil XL again offers unlimited 5G and LTE data volume.

StreamOn until the end of March 2023
The higher included data volumes are also due to the fact that the zero-rating StreamOn offer can no longer be remarketed after a decision by the Federal Network Agency from July 1st. For existing customers, the Federal Network Agency still has a deadline until the end of March 2023, which Deutsche Telekom intends to make full use of, as stated in a press conference today.
Press Plus Karten Price per SIM card
Aside from the larger data packages, the additional cards marketed under the name “PlusKarte” are the second major innovation in the tariffs. Telekom is thus targeting families in which each family member currently uses their own contract and thus pays the full basic price. In future, an additional SIM card can be ordered for EUR 19.95, regardless of the tariff selected, which has the same properties as the main card but has its own phone number. The data volume is not shared, so using the example of MagentaMobil S, each customer would have 10 GB available. Each additional card (“PlusKarte+”) is only 9.95 euros, so that the costs per person continue to fall from the third card onwards. A PlusKarte for children and teenagers between the ages of 6 and 17 generally only costs 9.95 euros, the same applies to a PlusKarte Data only for data. >Main contractor pays the invoice
Up to five PlusKarte and up to five PlusKarte Data can be booked in addition to the main card. Deutsche Telekom takes what counts as a family rather lightly, because the additional cards can be booked regardless of name and address. The only thing to note is that one main contractual partner has to pay the bill for all cards. The main contractual partner is also responsible for the included services of the card. If, for example, there is a change from MagentaMobil S to M, the price of the main card increases from 39.95 to 49.95 euros, but the price remains the same for all other cards and each card can now use 20 instead of 10 GB.

MagentaEINS for more or unlimited data volume
All new tariffs can be upgraded again with the MagentaEINS advantage, which can be used if there is also a landline contract with Telekom. In this constellation, all new tariffs cost 5 euros less per month and offer double or unlimited data volume as well as a flat rate from the fixed network to all German mobile networks. What is new for MagentaMobil L is that this contract will be switched to unlimited data volume when MagentaEINS is activated.
Many existing customers will be converted
The tariffs marketed from July 1 apply not only to new customers, but also to some existing customers who are automatically switched to the new model. If there is a mobile phone tariff with 5G support that has been marketed since September 6, 2019, the new conditions can be used automatically from July 1 and PlusCards can be booked. Their provision price as well as that of the main card is basically and as before at 39.95 euros per card, but will not apply until August 14, 2022. According to Deutsche Telekom, the changeover will affect around 3.3 million existing customers. All other mobile phone customers can switch to the new tariffs via customer service, online, in the Telekom Shop and in specialist shops.
Other conditions at a glance
All new tariffs offer a telephone and SMS flat rate in all German networks, a HotSpot flat rate for domestic HotSpots from Telekom Deutschland GmbH and EU roaming including Switzerland and the United Kingdom. MultiSIM and DataSIM for EUR 4.95 per month are included with the Plus cards and are still available for tablets, notebooks or smartwatches with the same phone number. The unlimited mobile plans continue to be subject to a fair use policy when roaming in the EU, which amounts to 58 GB per month. In addition, unlike its US subsidiary, Deutsche Telekom does not make any changes to the data stream, for example in video streaming. Instead, the maximum quality that the user calls up from the platform is always delivered. Existing customers with StreamOn who will be switched to the new tariffs on July 1st will keep StreamOn until the end of March 2023.
