Microsoft has confirmed to Windows Central that they are working on a cloud streaming device under the Xbox brand that will bring games to the home television without a full console. The basis is Xbox Cloud Gaming's own streaming service.

The approach would be similar to that of Google Chromecast and Google Stadia, i.e. the combination of a cheap streaming stick without high computing power and your own game cloud in the background. Microsoft is currently working on the project under the code name “Xbox Keystone”, so to speak the key to the Xbox games in the cloud. With the Xbox Game Pass, the right subscription for the streaming device is already available, which buyers would have to complete in order to be able to stream the games from the cloud. So far, Xbox Cloud Gaming can be used on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, a Windows PC, the iPhone and the iPad.

Keystone still needs time

While Microsoft has confirmed that it is working on Keystone to lower the requirements for playing Xbox content and make the content available everywhere customers want to experience it, Microsoft also put the brakes on expectations of an imminent launch by saying said that the current version of Xbox Keystone still needs some time to mature. What has been learned from the project so far should be used for a new approach and improvements. With an announcement on the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12 is therefore unlikely, perhaps Microsoft, in view of the rumors that have arisen, will only briefly mention the device for the first time without going into detail.

Our vision for Xbox Cloud Gaming is unwavering, our goal is to enable people to play the games they want, on the devices they want, anywhere they want. As announced last year, we've been working on a game-streaming device, codename Keystone, that could be connected to any TV or monitor without the need for a console.

Notes that Microsoft also offers TV streaming via providers such as Netflix, Amazon, Disney or Apple will enable on the device, which could speed up the spread, but no new details have been released.
