Microsoft wants to allow users to put customizable stickers on the Windows 11 desktop in the future. However, what the new function, which is now hidden for the first time in the current Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621, is all about in detail remains uncertain for the time being. Just eye candy or useful?
Group Policy unlocks stickers
As the Twitter user “Albacore” aka “@thebookisclosed” found out, the group policies of the current Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621, which is also the basis for the autumn 2022 update aka Windows 11 22H2 (“Sun Valley 2 “) will also unlock the new feature “stickers for the background image”. To do this, edit the following path:
Group Policy: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftPolicyManagercurrentdeviceStickers
The guideline is not active by default in the current preview and must first be activated by the user.
As the Deskmodder website has now reported, the procedure for this is as follows become:
The stickers can then be placed on the desktop and scaled in size by clicking on “Add and edit stickers” in the context menu, as “Albacore” demonstrates in a short video.

As recently with the desktop widgets, the so-called “interactive content”, which spread across the desktop and are reminiscent of the gadgets from Windows Vista (test), the question also arises with the stickers for the desktop, what is this gimmick for in the end should be useful.
With Windows 11 23H2, Microsoft should try to include the desktop and user interface more closely again.
The feature is already making people laugh
Numerous users are already venting about the short message service Twitter and are already extensively parodying Microsoft's latest “feature update”. What do you think of the customizable desktop stickers in Windows 11?
