Alienware announced the input device at the beginning of the year, and the symmetrical AW720M Tri-Mode Wireless should finally be available from June 2022. The specifications promise 140 hours of runtime with high-end sensors, a magnetic cable connection and opto-mechanical primary buttons.

However, Alienware does not reveal exactly which components are involved. At least the sensor can be deduced with the given parameters: The manufacturer states a maximum resolution of 26,000 cpi, a maximum measurable speed of 16.5 m/s and 490 m/s² during acceleration. Only PixArts PMW-3399 offers this combination – i.e. the current top model, provided that the PMW-3950 used exclusively by Razer is hidden. Thanks to 2.4 GHz radio, the AW720M can be connected wirelessly at 1,000 Hertz, and Bluetooth 5.1 is also available.

Alternatively, the USB-A-to-C -Cables are used. Alienware supplies a magnetic adapter so that the charging cable only has to be moved close to the USB-C port on the front and then tightened. However, it seems impractical that the adapter also acts as a connector between the charging cable and the wireless adapter.

The 500 mAh battery can then be charged within five minutes for 20 hours of use. At full capacity, Alienware promises a runtime of 140 hours, with Bluetooth it should even be 420 hours. As usual, both specifications presumably apply to deactivated RGB lighting.

Another special feature of the AW720M is its shape. With a symmetrical chassis and comparatively wide front, the mouse is a bit reminiscent of Razer's Boomslang or Diamondback model series. In contrast to these, however, there are two thumb buttons on the left and right flank, so that the Alienware mouse appeals to both right-handed and left-handed users. Other manufacturers, on the other hand, omit the right-hand buttons on the most recent iterations of their symmetrical mice to save weight. With a mass of around 89 grams, the AW720M can't compete in this discipline anyway.

Available from June

Alienware has a recommended retail price of around 130 euros for the AW720 Tri-Mode Wireless, which is available in black and white. In the price comparison, the mouse is already listed by some retailers, but is not available anywhere so far. However, that should change in the next few days, the Alienware input device should now be available from June 2022.
