It could be official as early as Thursday: Broadcom wants VMware, and they want it to cost up to 60 billion US dollars. VMware stock likes the news, promptly up 25 percent while Broadcom falls. But opinions on the planned takeover differ widely.

The software, cloud and virtualization specialist VMware has evolved over the past ten years under Pat Gelsinger, now CEO at Intel very well developed. Despite being acquired by Dell in 2015, close partnerships with major companies have continued and allowed VMware to grow.

Dell wanted to use the newly gained freedom to develop even more. However, this could now be coming to an end, but both companies have so far declined to comment on the possible takeover.
