In the relegation, Hamburger SV takes the first step towards promotion. In the first leg at Hertha BSC, the second division team narrowly prevailed. He misses the clear chances – a complicated shot goes in.

Where is the scorer? After his goal, Ludovit Reis is lost in the crowd of cheering players

If Ludovit Reis were asked to repeat the decisive goal in the 1-0 (0-0) win in the Bundesliga relegation against Hertha BSC, the HSV midfielder would probably have trouble making it at least once in ten attempts . No question: The goal of the 21-year-old Dutchman was something special – because of the technical challenge, but above all because of the importance it could have for the future of the Bundesliga dinosaur.

In the 57th minute of a relatively balanced game without many scoring chances for either side, Reis was on the left towards the penalty area. On the run, he lobbed the ball from an acute angle just outside the 16-metre area and then watched it arc over the Hertha goalkeeper, then fall steeply down and off the right inner post into the goal rebounded.

 “Cold” Keeper Christensen

“I saw that the keeper was far in front, so I wanted to lift the ball in the direction of the second post,” explained Reis on the Sky microphone after the final whistle. “But of course there was a lot of luck involved.” Victim of the feat was Oliver Christensen. After first-choice goalkeeper Marcel Lotka broke his nose and suffered a slight concussion in the last Bundesliga game at Borussia Dortmund when he collided with the post, the Dane moved up. It was his first competitive game ever for Hertha. “I haven't played that much this season so it was difficult for me,” admitted Christensen. “I was maybe a bit too far forward. It wasn't an easy situation. It could have been done better.”

The ball gets longer and longer: Hertha goalkeeper Oliver Christensen stretches in vain

There was encouragement from the opponent: “It's annoying that you think a cross will come and then it will be an arc lamp that goes in the back,” said HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes. “But maybe we forced it today. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how we score the goals. We just want to come off the pitch as winners.”

“It'll continue on Monday!”

Meanwhile, the defeated Hertha team fled in slogans of perseverance. “It's still only 1-0. You have to see that positively. Everything's still possible,” said Niklas Stark after the average performance of his team, who could hardly create their own chances. “Of course it was too thin. We wanted to present it clearly, but it didn't work. Now only Monday counts. We'll do everything we can and see what comes of it.”

The Bundesliga club is now under even more pressure after the defeat in the first leg . In the second leg on Monday in Hamburg (kick-off 8:30 p.m. CEST), the Berliners need a win to stay up in the league. “It didn't get any easier with the 0-1 draw,” admitted Hertha coach Felix Magath. The goal scorer issued the slogan for the second leg. In a mix of German and English, Ludovit Reis said: “We'll continue on Monday!”
