After Asus and Acer, HP is also presenting new notebooks with the latest hardware – more or less in the context of Computex. These also include two systems with Intel's Arc A370M mobile graphics card: Envy 16 and Specter x360 16.

Two trends are a common thread running through the new announcements in spring 2022: The 16:10 format and 16 inches. HP is no exception, not even with the Envy 16, which stands out from the mass of new announcements with the installed dGPU.

Up to now there was the series with 13, 15 and 17 inches in 16:9 format, only the 14 inch model offered 16:10. A 16-inch model with a 16:10 display is now being added. At the same time, this increases the resolution to 2,560 × 1,600 or even 3,840 × 2,400 pixels, previously Envy Full HD(+) was standard.

Various Intel Cores of the 12th generation from the H- Series to choose from, as dGPU there is a choice between GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU (test) and Intel Arc A370M.

Arc Premiere at a Major OEM

It's the first announcement of a new mobile graphics card from Intel in a terminal from one of the major OEMs. To date, only Acer (already at CES, when Intel had long since postponed the launch) andmachenike had announced such a model, while Samsung launched a variant of the Galaxy Book 2 Pro in South Korea.

Details cannot be elicited from HP's data sheet; power losses are not mentioned for either the GeForce or the Intel Arc. And in a press conference held prior to the announcement, the manufacturer didn't even respond to the question of whether he could say anything about the performance.

GeForce RTX 3060 costs significantly more than Intel Arc A370M

The new HP Envy 16 can now be ordered from HP; the manufacturer's US shop has already listed it. According to HP, however, shipping will not start until June 17th – regardless of which variant. The prices in the US shop start at 1,399 US dollars before taxes, the manufacturer did not provide German prices and data even when asked before the embargo came down. In the US store, the upcharge from the Core i7-12700H and Intel Arc A370M system to the Core i7-12700H with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU is $240 before tax.

HP Specter x160 16 with Intel Arc A370M

The convertible HP Specter x360 16 follows the same path as the Envy 16: It brings 16 inches in 16:10 format with 3,072 × 1,920 or 3,840 × 2,400 pixels into the series, in which the formats 16:9 were previously divided into 13, 3 inches and 3:2 on 15.6 inches, and optionally also comes with an Intel Arc A370M. In this case, there is no option for a GeForce, which gives the model the Intel Evo seal because it also meets all other requirements. This now also allows the use of a separate GPU, as long as it comes from Intel.

HP offers the Specter x360 16 with both the Core i7-12700H and the pin-compatible i5-1260P – Alder Lake-P is based on the same die as Alder Lake-H, but is configured with a lower TDP.

Can be ordered immediately, delivered from June 17

The new HP Specter x360 16-inch can now also be pre-ordered in the US shop. In this case, too, the date for the start of delivery is June 17th. Pre-tax pricing in the US starts at $1,649.99. Switching from the pure iGPU to the Arc version with Core i7-12700H costs 220 US dollars.

Envy x360 13.3 and 15.6 too will be obsolete

With this tag, HP has also relaunched the Envy x360 13.3 and Envy x360 15.6 series, although the small model is only available with Intel CPUs for the time being. Both series are currently also available with AMD Ryzen 5000.

The Envy x360 13.3 switches to 16:10, uses CPUs from the Alder Lake U series and does without on a dGPU. Shipping will start next week.

Ryzen 5000U changes from Cezanne to Barcelo

The larger model, in turn, relies either on Alder Lake U/P processors, or again – and extremely surprisingly – on AMD Ryzen 5000U based on Barcelo instead of Cezanne – the platform remains the same, DDR4 is used instead of DDR5.

In addition, the 15.6-inch model optionally offers the Turing-based GeForce RTX 2050 laptop GPU, but remains at 16:9. In this case, shipping will start on June 17th.
