Arma Reforger: The bridge to Arma 4 returns to the first part

Bohemia Interactive has revealed the future of military simulation Arma via livestream. Curiously, this is in the past, because the presented Arma Reforger leads back to the very first part of the studio. However, the new enfusion engine stages the Cold War in a much more modern way and also on Xbox.

A bridge to Arma 4

< p class="p text-width">Fans who were expecting the launch of Arma 4 were disappointed in last night's live stream on Twitch. Because there is no really new part of the series for the time being. Instead, Arma Reforger (Early Access) serves as a virtual bridge to the subsequent Arma 4, which in turn has been confirmed for later.

Arma Reforger back in the cold War

Packaged in the new Enfusion Engine, which not only has a lot to offer graphically but also in terms of game mechanics, the story revolves around the Cold War era, as was the case in the very first part of the studio: In June 2001, Bohemia Interactive brought Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, which has since been renamed Arma: Cold War Assault.

From this part comes the fictional island of Everon in the mid-Atlantic, which has now been recreated in state-of-the-art graphic splendor on a virtual 52 km² and boasts mountains, valleys, forests, meadows, rivers and lakes. Arma Reforger should show practically now how beautiful an Arma 4 can look and ultimately also provide income with which further development is financed. The story takes place in 1989 and provides the scenario of a conflict between US soldiers and Soviet troops on the contested island.

Multiplayer in Battlefield style

Arma Reforger does not offer a single player campaign. Still, it's more than a playable tech demo for the new engine. Bohemia promises a lot of action in the multiplayer mode Conflict. Players have to decide for one of the two sides and fight for strategically important positions with various weapons and vehicles in the style of a “Battlefield”. With Arsenal, the developers promise authenticity “down to the smallest detail”.

Game Master Mode and Workbench

The Game Master game mode represents a new concept for more variety , which also demonstrates the sandbox properties of the new engine. This is a real-time editor for your own missions that other players can also experience in this mode. The Game Master should also be able to intervene dynamically in the game.

Arma Reforger's playable content is supported by Game Master – a real-time mission editor that allows players to curate events, set tasks and challenges, and dynamically respond to other players on the battlefield.

As with the predecessors, the topic of modding is once again a top priority. Due to the change to the Enfusion Engine, new mods are needed that can be created with the workbench. The same tools that were used to develop the game are promised here. The modifications will be made available to everyone through the workshop.

Arma Reforger is available now

According to Bohemia, Arma Reforger is the first part of the series that can also be played on the Xbox at the same time. However, the game is not finished yet. The title costs around 30 euros in Early Access on Steam and as a game preview for Xbox Series X|S. Visit the game's official website for more information.
