It was to be expected that iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 wouldn't have that many features, as we're on the eve of the announcement of iOS 16. Apple prefers to save important new features for the next major release. We find mainly small improvements in iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5. Apple has been testing the updates extensively with developers over the past few weeks and now the time has come: you can download the update too!

Caution: iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 are rolling out from now on. It can take until after 18:00 before the update is visible on your iPhone or iPad. The version released today has the same build number as the latest Release Candidate of iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4. If you don't see the update yet, please wait for a later moment. There's no point reporting this in the comments.

iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 available

There are several minor iOS 15.5 features in these updates, which can now be tried by anyone with a suitable iPhone or iPad. You can now check your HomePod's signal strength and control Apple Music playback speed in third-party apps too. In addition, there is support for Bancontact and Bancomat, two payment systems in Belgium. and Italy. References to Apple Classical have also been found, but whether that app is also immediately available remains to be seen. You can read much more about the iOS 15.5 functions in our round-up.

Various security improvements

Apple has since published its security improvements page for the update. In total, 27 security vulnerabilities have been fixed with this update, including in the field of Wi-Fi, WebKit, the Assignments app, private mode in Safari, Notes and more. For example, someone with physical access to your device could access your photos from the lock screen via Shortcuts. And in private mode in Safari, a rogue website could still track you.

On Apple's page you will find a complete overview of all security improvements.

Why don't I see the update (yet)?
It can sometimes take a while before you will see the update on your device. This has to do with the fact that Apple is rolling out these updates in phases. You can read about this in this article: This is why it takes longer for iOS updates to be installed automatically. If you still can't update iOS after a while, read our article about iOS installation problems.

Note: keep the comments on-topic, concrete and clear others. Personal status updates as to whether your download has started/success does not add anything to the discussion. It may also take a little longer before the update is visible. You do not have to report this either. These comments will be deleted.
