No test with Dolmen: Like Intel Arc, Intel XeSS will only be released “in the summer”

Originally, a test of Intel's upsampling algorithm XeSS was scheduled for this week, because the technology was supposed to celebrate its premiere with a day-1 patch in the game Dolmen – that's how the developers left it announced a week ago. But nothing will come of it, because XeSS in Dolmen, like Arc, will only come “in the summer”.

After testing FSR 2.0, there was an interview that the Dolmen developers by Massive Work Studio last week wccftech, the test of Intel XeSS is on the agenda for this week.

XeSS can theoretically be tested without Arc to be tested

XeSS is Intel's alternative to Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, which, like FSR, also runs on graphics cards from other manufacturers, but is said to run faster on Intel's Arc graphics cards with Alchemist architecture thanks to acceleration via the matrix cores (MMX). Nvidia DLSS, on the other hand, only works on Nvidia's GeForce RTX graphics cards because it requires the matrix cores (tensor cores), AMD FSR, on the other hand, does without an AI component and runs the same on all supported GPUs.

When the editors made the first preparations for the XeSS test in Dolmen on Monday, it did seem strange, after all, Intel's Arc graphics cards are still months away and for the desktop, but the algorithm on AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce In comparison to FSR and DLSS, it still seemed to be an exciting project.

Without XeSS in dolmen for the time being too no test

But that's obviously not supposed to happen. Koch Media, the publisher behind Dolmen, informed wccftech shortly after the interview was published that XeSS in Dolmen would not appear at the start on Friday, but only “in the summer”. Today the developer himself had this message spread via Twitter.

No background details

Details about the background are not known, that Intel pulled the ripcord behind the scenes at short notice, but there is no indication of this in this case except for the announcement a week ago. On the contrary: Intel spoke of “Early Summer” in connection with XeSS for the presentation of the first mobile Arc graphics cards on March 30th. A release of XeSS next Friday would have been one month before this period. It seems only logical to now officially speak of “in the summer” for the correction, since the announcement is the same for larger Arc desktop graphics cards.
