MINI Challenge warms up its engines for the new 2022 season

Everything is ready for the eleventh edition of the MINI Challenge mono-brand that will take & agrave; the start in July with the Vallelunga stage. Also in 2022 MINI Italia confirms its commitment to a championship that will allow; to the pilots to be able to compete on the most important Italian tracks.

Overall, the 2022 MINI Challenge season includes 6 appointments. Three cars competing in different categories: MINI John Cooper Works Challenge Lite, MINI John Cooper Works Challenge Pro and MINI John Cooper Works Challenge Evo . Furthermore, also in 2022 the Academy project continues, which also sees the under 25 on the track, as part of the MINI program dedicated to young people. In fact, one of the objectives of this single-brand store is; also to train new pilots. To assist them throughout the season Gianni Morbidelli.

The single-brand store is; carried out thanks to the collaboration with ACI and Promodrive which collaborated in the development of the cars. All three models competing are based on the 3-door MINI John Cooper Works.

THE CARS

Let's start from the MINI John Cooper Works Lite Challenge it does not differ much from the production model in terms of technical specifications. A choice also made to minimize the costs of accessing the championship. The car has a 4-cylinder 2-liter engine with 231 HP . The aerodynamic kit, on the other hand, is; quite similar to that of the Pro and Evo versions.

The Pro version, on the other hand, can always count on the same engine but the power rises to about 265 HP . In addition, this model features a 6-speed sequential gearbox expressly developed for this championship. The difference between Lite and Pro in lap times is; about 4 seconds.

Then we have the new Evo which debuts in 2022. Much more; technically sophisticated, it can & ograve; rely on a power of about 306 hp . We also have new suspension and a much more braking system; performing. According to MINI, from the first estimates the difference with the Pro version in lap times should be in the order of 3-3.5 seconds.

THE REGULATION

The MINI Challenge is; open to ACI Sport competitor and/or driver license holders valid for the current year in accordance with the provisions of current legislation. Competitors and foreign drivers, in compliance with current regulations, are allowed to participate in the MINI Challenge Events.

Compared to the previous edition, & egrave; the competition scheme has been revised . Changes that were made thanks to feedback from the teams. The races unfold in two free practice/test sessions lasting 25 minutes each, two qualifying sessions of 15 minutes to establish the starting grid for Race 1 and Race 2, and two races of 25 minutes + 1 lap each.

At the end of each race for the attribution of the corresponding scores, three different classifications will be drawn up: MINI John Cooper Works Challenge Evo classification and MINI John Cooper Works Challenge Pro classification, MINI John Cooper Works Challenge classification Academy.

In addition to the score of the final classification of the races, one point is awarded to the driver who achieved the pole positions. A point is also awarded to whoever achieved the best lap time in each of the races. In the event of a tie, the point relating to the best lap time in the race is assigned to the car that has set the best time first.

Competitors must register for the championship and for each event. Registration is formalized by sending the forms necessary for registration to the Championship to ACI Sport and the application for registration to the single Event duly completed and attaching the payment, or the documentation thereof, to the organizers of the individual races, by Monday; of the week in which the event is to be attended.

The 2022 target is; to always have between 22 and 26 cars in the race.

THE CALENDAR

The MINI Challenge 2022 will develop; in six race weekends.

MINI CHALLENGE ACCADEMY

Through introductory lessons and training sessions on specific topics, for example on how to deal with the delicate moment of departure, or on how to improve driving performance, promising drivers will hone their talent to face the season in the best possible way and will acquire the necessary skills to be able to compete in higher categories in future seasons.
