New IKEA roller blinds with HomeKit
While other window covering manufacturers often opt for the higher price segment, IKEA FYTUR and KADRILJ are very affordable. There is a disadvantage: you are limited to two types of material, the color is always the same and the size has to fit just right. Soon there will be more choice, because the PRAKTLYSING and TREDANSEN are in the starting blocks. They can be seen in action in the video below.
The PRAKTLYSING is a curtain with folding mechanism in the sizes 120 x 195 cm and 140 x 195 cm. These are translucent and slightly more expensive than the previous roller blinds, with prices starting at €125.-. The larger size costs €129.-. That's a lot more expensive than these pleated curtains from IKEA, which cost less than three euros. But compared to a typical HomeKit curtain, it's still decent.
The PRAKTLYSING can be seen in the photo below:
The TREDANSEN also has a folding mechanism. These are also available in the sizes 120 x 195 cm and 140 x 195 cm for a price from €149.-. They are made of a material that does not transmit light and can therefore be used for darkening. They can be controlled remotely and run on a battery.
The TRENDS can be seen below in a video:
IKEA first released remote controlled roller blinds in 2019. The start was a bit messy: they were out of stock, they didn't always work well, and HomeKit support was a long time coming. Now that the first teething problems are gone, you may have a little more confidence to bring them into your home – or to choose the new models.
