In the weekly App Missed section you can read which apps from the past week are worth checking out. We always discuss about five apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac. These could be apps that you may not have known about or that are useful or just fun to try. And that can also be veterans who have received a major update and therefore receive some extra attention.

Discussed earlier this week on iCulture:

  • YouTube app gets a new video player: this is what it looks like
  • Google One VPN now on iOS, but it's missing one important feature

iCulture App of the Week: Caset Apple Music users may recognize this: you create a playlist and share it with your partner. But if your partner wants to add a number, that is unfortunately not possible; only the original playlist creator can add and remove songs. Compiling a playlist together is unfortunately not included. The Caset app makes that possible after all. The app revolves around so-called mixtapes, but digitally and in the year 2022.

With Caset you can create a joint playlist together with friends or family. Everything happens in real-time: new songs automatically appear in the playlist on all participants' devices. You can even give short comments to let us know what you think of an addition. The app works together with Apple Music, so you can listen to the music in a playlist directly in Caset. So the playlist does not appear in the Music app, but that should not spoil the fun. You can also create your own covers that look like the Memories in the Photos app.

Sor

Do you remember Soor? Years ago, this alternative app to Apple Music appeared for iPhone. And after a long wait, the app is finally available for the iPad. The app uses a three-column design: the menu on the left, the contents of the selected item in the center, and the current song playing on the right. The app is therefore a bit more advanced than the standard Music app, although that can also deter you. The app also works with the Magic Mix playlists, in which you can create a playlist based on your Apple Music preferences. Soor for the iPad also supports Split View and Slide Over and even brings back the older Cover Flow, where you can scroll through albums like you did on the iPod.

Truckmeister

Flitsmeister has something new: with Truckmeister truck drivers get a tailor-made app. Truckmeister has navigation that is specially tailored to trucks, so that routes and headroom are also taken into account. The maximum speeds shown have also been adjusted for trucks. You can add measures and weights and the interface has also been modified. The app also has the same look and feel as the Flitsmeister app. Incidentally, Truckmeister is not entirely new: we wrote about the app in 2019, which was then still called FLUX Trucking. Since this week, however, the app has been completely renewed.

Calculator Q

According to the Belgian developer Dennis van Roeyen, this app is not just another calculator app. The app offers a complete history of your calculations, where you can also add labels so that you know later what the calculation was for. You can even use those labels in other calculations. It is also possible to edit previous calculations. The app is available for iPhone….and iPad! The latter can be especially useful, because there is still no standard Calculator app available for it.

Ochi

If Screen Time isn't doing enough to curb your smartphone addiction, then Ochi might be for you. The app can block websites and apps if you want to work more concentrated. You can create filters that are synced between iPhone, iPad and Mac. The app also works with Siri Shortcuts, so for anyone who is actively involved with the Shortcuts app, Ochi can bring it in.
