Simyo now also sells iPhones, but is it cheaper?

Limited number of iPhones at Simyo

Simyo is KPN's budget brand and we are therefore not surprised that the range consists of cheaper smartphones from brands such as Oppo and Motorola. There are actually two iPhones: the iPhone 12 mini of the previous generation and the iPhone SE 2020 for those looking for something a little cheaper. Both are only available in the 64GB variant and only in black or white. In the press release Simyo mentions that new and refurbished devices will be available. They can be paid off in one installment or in part, but you can also pay in installments over 24 months. Anyone who already has a sim only at Simyo can extend his or her subscription and immediately purchase a phone with it.

But does it also make sense to get your iPhone from Simyo or can you just as well take out your subscription with KPN? After all, you are using the same network. We looked it up for you.

64GB iPhone 12 mini at Simyo
If you want the 64GB iPhone 12 mini you pay at Simyo:

One-time device: €24
Home copy tax one-time €8.83
One-time delivery costs: €5
Data bundle: €9 per month (10GB)
Call/text messages 200 pieces: €5 per month
Phone installment: €22 per month
Contract duration: 24 months

Total costs at Simyo: €901.83

64GB iPhone 12 mini at KPN
Parent company KPN does not offer exactly the same bundles, but you can take out a 3G or 10GB data bundle with both companies. This bundle is the best match:

Device one-time: €24
Home copying fee one-time €8.83
Activation costs one-time: €25
Data bundle: €19 per month (10GB+2GB free)
Calls/texts 150 pieces: included
Phone installment: €25 per month
Contract duration: 24 months

Total costs at KPN: €1113.83

KPN is therefore more than 200 euros more expensive if you choose this device. There is a (small) difference: you get slightly more data with KPN and you can use the 5G network. At Simyo you are on 4G and you have a limited choice of devices. In fact, the few iPhones Simyo has on the website are not even in stock, so you'll have to wait until you can take advantage of the said offer.

In a comically intended video, Simyo announces the news on social media. The fictional SIM.E.O. of the company explains how you no longer have to be sim-lonely.

What you can also do is close Simyo through all kinds of telecom shops. Then you are free to choose an iPhone and you can also choose from the iPhone 13 and the like.
