Update January 31, 2022: Trusted display expert Ross Young revises his previous forecast. In a tweet, he now says that he expects the new iMac Pro, as the new larger iMac will probably be called, to be available sometime in the summer of 2022. For example, Apple could announce the model during WWDC 2022. Apple also announced the first-generation iMac Pro at WWDC in 2017.

Other aspects the analyst shares is a mini LED display. There would be a difference with the mini-LED screens of the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. The iMac Pro would get fewer mini-LED zones. This may have to do with the larger screen size of this iMac. According to sources, the iMac Pro will have a 27-inch display.

Update December 14, 2021: Display analyst Ross Young, who often makes good predictions about display technology in new products, says again that the new iMac Pro with 27-inch screen will arrive in the spring of 2022. It would be a model with a mini-LED and 120Hz ProMotion, comparable to the screen of the 2021 MacBook Pro.

It is not the first time that the name iMac Pro has been mentioned. Other sources also spoke of a new iMac Pro when it came to the new larger iMac. Previously, Apple simply released the iMac in two sizes (just like the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro came in two sizes) and also had a separate extra powerful iMac Pro for a number of years. For 2022, it looks like the iMac Pro will become not only the more powerful, but also the bigger iMac. It is striking that the display size remains the same with the current 27-inch Intel iMac. The difference in size with the current 24-inch iMac is therefore smaller, but with the more powerful chip, Apple will still be able to make more of a difference.

After all the Macs with Apple Silicon that have already appeared, the big question is: which one will be next? The 27-inch iMac is high on the nomination to be replaced. Earlier this year, the 24-inch iMac made the switch to Apple Silicon, and now only a few models remain: the larger iMac, the high-end Mac mini and the even more professional Mac Pro. According to rumored @dylandkt, the big iMac will soon be next. He might just get ‘iMac Pro‘ is equipped with an M1 Pro and M1 Max chip and has a 27-inch mini LED screen. We will also see many more ports again.

’27-inch iMac coming early 2022′

In fact, Dylan confirms what we already know. It's not hard to guess that the 27-inch iMac (Pro) will run on the M1 Pro/Max: these powerful chips have just been unveiled and will undoubtedly end up in the larger iMac. At least in the more expensive configurations. A release in early 2022 also sounds credible: usually Apple organizes an event in the spring where we regularly see new iPads or Macs.

Apple should be ‘Pro’ want to add to the name to differentiate it from the 24-inch iMac that appeared earlier this year. The device could therefore get a different appearance, with less bright colors. Apple would consider it a Pro device and internally calls it “iMac Pro”, Dylan claims.

We also see many functions of the recently released MacBook Pros. The 27-inch mini-LED screen works with ProMotion and has dark screen edges, which have become a bit narrower. Display analyst Ross Young also believes that the screen size will remain 27-inch and that Apple will opt for mini-LED with ProMotion.

The appearance resembles the 24-inch iMac and the Pro Display XDR. Apple is said to have tested Face ID for this machine, but it's not sure if that will also be included. The base model would come with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage. All models get an HDMI port, SD card slot and multiple USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, similar to the MacBook Pro. The adapter has an Ethernet port, just like the 24-inch iMac.

In terms of entry price, we can count on about $2,000, the rumor thinks nicely. Given the price, it looks more like a 27-inch Intel iMac replacement rather than an iMac Pro. It was at a completely different price level: the entry-level model cost €5,499 in the Netherlands.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, a larger iMac is indeed being developed. Apple is said to have prioritized development of the 24-inch model, but since its release it has been working diligently on a larger iMac.
