During a press conference on Friday, Lavrov said that the US response to the same security requirements could actually be used as a starting point for discussions on a binding agreement on some of the points put forward by Russia.

But the response from NATO headquarters in Brussels, on the other hand, was, according to Russia, purely “embarrassing” for the people who wrote the text, RT reports.

NATO's text is also a response to Russia's initiative from December, where Moscow sent a list of proposals for security guarantees. to NATO and the United States. In the list, Russia demanded, among other things, that the placement of nuclear missiles near the Russian border be stopped and that NATO troops in Europe be withdrawn to the 1997 positions.

Both US and NATO headquarters in Brussels ruled that several items on the list were “non-negotiable”, while US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan actually provided answers for both Washington which on several points could lead to a legally binding agreement according to Lavrov.

– When you compare with what we have received from NATO, the US response appears almost like a textbook example of diplomatic decency, said the Russian Foreign Minister.

“The response from NATO is so ideologically charged, with such a sense of exceptionalism within the North Atlantic Defense Alliance and its special mission, special purpose, that one is even filled with some compassion for the people who wrote this, as it is embarrassing,” said Lavrov.

– I'm not saying that the negotiations are over. The United States and NATO have been studying our very straightforward demands, as we have seen, for more than a month now … but it is possible to see the seeds of rationality there.

Lavrov states, however, that the success can mainly be seen in “secondary” issues and that the most important demand – that Ukraine and other new countries in the east should not join NATO – is unanswered and that the issue lacks a solution.

The United States has previously said that NATO's “open door policy “for the deployment of NATO robots in these countries is non-negotiable. The answer has led Russian representatives to discuss an “open door policy” for Russian robots in countries such as Venezuela and Cuba, but so far no sharp threats in that direction have been made from a higher place.
