Domestic. So far this year alone, at least about 50 frauds and attempted frauds have taken place against Polish-speaking elderly people in Stockholm County.

At the moment, there are about 50 reports of fraud and attempted fraud in all parts of Stockholm County.
A common approach is that the caller pretends to be from the police and want card details or the like. There are also examples where the caller claims to be a police officer and has received information that the caller has or will be exposed to a crime shortly, and therefore wants to protect the caller's valuables in various ways.
– The person calling can be both a woman or a man and speaks Polish. They are very convincing in their approach. The victim may feel guilty that he or she was deceived, but unfortunately these fraudsters are very inventive and it is easy to actually be deceived, says Jan Friberg at the fraud section at the police in the Stockholm region, on the police's website.
The police works both to investigate the crimes and crime prevention to prevent more crimes from happening.
– We have sought contact with the Catholic Church and have previously also had good contact with a Polish-Swedish association to get help to spread information about what is happening to try to stop the fraud affecting the elderly, says Jan Friberg.
